Art Journal Every Day: My Traveler’s Notebook

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

I have finally finished my Traveler's Notebook!  Hooooooray!  Before I show it to you, I've decided not to use it *gasp* until my current Bullet Journal is full. 🙁

I'm about half way through my current Rhodia book and it feels silly and wasteful to leap into the new book.  So…for now I'm allowing myself to use the sketchbook part but everything else is on hold until I'm ready to migrate.  Before I take you on a tour of the book, here's a quick video of me trying out the new sketchbook — which is made from regular drawing paper – with watercolor:

And now, the grand tour:

Here are links to the three tutorials I found most useful when I was putting my Traveler's Notebook together:

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my brand new homemade Traveler's Notebook!  I'm looking forward to finishing up my current Bullet Journal so that I can slide on over into this beautiful book!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I like how you put a lot of thought into the book and how you planned on using it – BEFORE you started making it. Even though you ran into a few technical snafus, you worked around it and made it work for you, rather than giving up.Totally Awesome!

  • Very very interesting. Always wondered why stitching on leather was impossible. And I am thinking out loud if jewelry findings could attach the elastic. I think the vinyl with magnets is inspired. Adding the sketch paint option is just fab!!

  • I’m not even done watching but I paused so I could tell you….you gave me such a great idea! My mom and my son gave me a couple of leather jackets with cool patches but damage on some areas. I have been trying to figure out what to do with them. I’m going to cut them up and make journals with them! I own a museum shop on Route 66 and I’m a travel journaler. I think people will buy them for travel journals. I’ll package them up with some good pens and add a Route 66 patch to each one. THANK YOU for posting this…I don’t think it would have entered my head to use them for this.
