I made this fabulous pen bag from…PAPER!!

I have always looooved cut paper, but it's fragile.  It's hard to make anything long lasting from it.  But then I figured out that I could sandwich the cut paper between two sheets of iron-on vinyl and turn it into a much more durable material.  I cut two pieces of pink cardstock, sealed them between layers of iron-on vinyl and was then able to stitch together this pen bag…

One Note: You do have to be careful when turning the bag because the paper will crease if you fold it.  It's not a functionality problem, merely an aesthetic one.

I love being able to take a simple material — like pink cardstock — and transform it into something fabulous and useful!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. My Pamphlet Stitch Art Journal class is tonight.  I hope you'll join in!

  • Julie, Great idea! I’ve got iron-on vinyl I bought for some reason that has escaped me now. This would be a good use of it. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • So (sew!) cool, Julie! I will definitely try this — cutting a fun design on the Scan n Cut and then going to town with the vinyl. Did you use a teflon foot for sewing, or a standard foot?
