And Then You Cut a Hole In Your Quilt

Quilted Appliqué is a little idea that I've been playing around with.  Essentially you put quilted items on top of each other.  I made this quilt and it was fine…but it just didn't sing.

So I decided to cut a hole in it!

So much better now!  That heart shaped hole creates so much more of a story, don't you think?

My students seemed to agree and they bravely cut holes in their own quilts during Friday's class at The City Quilter!

  • Love your “holey” quilt – I agree, it has so much more to say now with that negative space. Love your student’s work, too.

  • The hole really draws my eye to the bird and adds an interesting quality.

  • Love the heart cut out! I’ve had an ATC in my sketch book with a heart cut out of it for ages. You’ve inspired me to take the sketch to reality, and maybe with a bit of fabric!
