I’m so pleased to share that my 2025 in-person classes are now open for registration. If you’re hoping for a fabulous Christmas or Hanukkah gift, perhaps one of these classes will fit the bill! Treat yourself to a unique and special art experience.
The Nature Sketchbook: April 6-9, 2025 in Hartford, CT
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Monastery Gallery of Art’s surroundings as we fill a sketchbook with art and observations over four days. This class welcomes artists of all levels, from beginners to experts. We’ll engage in drawing, painting, and collage both en plein air and in a classroom setting. Explore color studies, object sketches, nature scenes, and abstracts. All are encouraged to join, regardless of drawing experience.
Guests will arrive at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, and depart by 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. Registration fees cover most art supplies, overnight accommodations, snacks and meals during your stay.
Processing Inspiration July 13-17, 2025 in Watertown, MA
This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced students. Some of the topics we will cover are: personal voice, using a sketchbook to capture ideas, converting inspiration into artwork, and understanding which “sketching” methods work for you. You will work in your own style towards your own body of work.
The rhythm of each day will be slightly different, but for the most part, we will spend part of the day visiting a museum or gallery to take in inspiration and part of the day working in the studio, generating output — ideas and artwork. Class will involve daily discussions, critique, encouragement, and one-on-one coaching.
You don’t need to be able to draw. You don’t have to have an existing sketchbook practice. But you do have to be able to stand in a museum or gallery and walk around for 2-3 hours each day.
- Sunday – Visit DeCordova Sculpture Park (weather permitting)
- Monday – Visit Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
- Tuesday – Visit Fuller Craft Museum
- Wednesday – Visit Harvard Art Museums
- Thursday – Studio Day
Breakfast, lunch, drinks, and snacks, are included in the class fee. Museum admission and most art supplies are also included.
The Monotype Collage Class October 4-6, 2025 in Watertown, MA
There are a few different ways to do monotype collage and we will be exploring FOUR of them during class:
- Traditional style – printing first and collaging afterwards.
- Chine-Collé style – gluing the collage paper down as the painted or inked layer is printed.
- Redacted style – collaging first and printing on top.
- Ping Pong style – moving back and forth between collaging and printing.
Each process yields slightly different results and one may work better for your brain than the other.
We will be using gelatin plates and a small craft press to create our mixed media artwork. The focus of this class is on creating finished art rather than random prints. You can expect to go home with lots of ideas and a big stack of artwork.
All experience levels are welcome. There will be an optional collage fodder exchange for any students who wish to participate.
Breakfast, lunch, drinks, and snacks, are included in the class fee as well as basic art supplies.
I would love to see you in class! Please let me know if you have any questions about these classes.
Thanks for stopping by!
