I've got seven more abstract mixed media collages for you! I constructed all of these pieces using a grid design, and following my "Art Parts" theory of construction.
I'm in the middle of this series and I can feel that I'm entering into a more experimental — and slightly more uncomfortable — phase of creating. It's a good (and scary) feeling.
Do you have a favorite among these mixed media collages? I have a few, for different reasons. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!

I love the first one because the shades of green are so yummy (is that the right technical term?), and because the pieces of green are big enough to give my eyes a place to rest amid the busy-ness. The second one also has wonderful color, and the oval shapes crossing the square shapes also guide my eye. Third, fourth and fifth ones make my eyes jump, which maybe is what you are after but not my favorite sensation. The sixth one, with the thin black lines, is compelling and wonderful — I want to keep looking into it, to find more detail. Please come back & tell us what are your faves & why — I’m still struggling to learn how to name the various elements of design. I mean, I can NAME them, as a list, but it is hard for me to SEE them in use.

I like #1,4,and 6. They are so interesting and beautiful. They seem to be calm compared to the rest. Thanks again for your generosity in sharing your talents.

I especially like the last one. My focus goes to the star with the surrounding lavender in the background. It’s calming, something I need right now as I am busy packing and getting ready for a full day of picnicking and visiting. Today I just need something to relax my body. Another time when I’m feeling like I need inspiration and a little more excitement I’d go for the next to the last one. I like the long poles with the circles on the ends in contrast to the other colored circles. Each piece for me represents a different feeling. Thank you Julie for your artsy mind.

My favorite by far is No 4. It feels very dimensional, like a stage. This feeling is made even stronger by the line marking on the top left. Looks like a curtain. The slight shades on the right next to the cube/circle stack add to the dimensional feel.
The colors work really well for me too.

I actually like #6. It feels more calm to me. What are the dimensions of your creations? And what plans to you have to display them? In a journal or framed?

They are all fabulous, but 16 is my favorite. It’s controlled and spontaneous, all at once, with wonderful use of colors. Well done!
