Hello, friends! Here is a little bit about life around here right now:
I have been trying to do a bit of outdoor sketching once a week. Just a quick scribble or two while on a brief neighborhood walk. Nothing finished or epic, but some gathering of new ideas/imagery.
I'm using a black pen and a grey marker in a simple little book I stitched together.
The relationship between him & his Grandma:
Both sets of my grandparents lived far away and so my whole life I only saw my grandparents once or twice a year. I love that he gets to spend time with his Grandma several times a week. When I bring him to her house, he's as comfortable over there as he is here at our house. He knows where his toys are stored and exactly where to go for snacks. (He just has to look at Grandma with those big brown eyes and chocolate is forthcoming!)
He is 16-months-old and hearty and hale. He's tall enough to reach the counter in our kitchen and my elevated table in the studio.
He is rarely allowed up in the studio (too many dangerous things) but he loves exploring all it has to offer (with a lot of supervision)! He can climb stairs and open doors now, so we are definitely in seriously supervised mode.
Current art crush?
I have been looking for new kinds of inspiration recently. I feel like I follow a lot of people who make the same kind of art and it's becoming a bit of a feedback loop for me. One of my recent fresh new finds is artist Sheila Arora. Her instagram bio made me like her immediately. It reads, "I'm a rockstar when I paint & I can't stop painting." Take a peek at her work:
I think it's important to look at all kinds of work. Her colors are not my colors. Her style is not my style. But I appreciate her work and it makes me think. I don't know about you, but I like to follow people who make me pause for a moment and reflect. They're brain stimulating.
So, there you have it! That's the scoop on life around here at the moment. If you're a Monthly Member, March's personal vlog and studio vlog are both in online classroom!
What's the difference between a personal vlog and a studio vlog?
- Personal vlogs have a lot of daily life stuff (lots of baby) and a bit of random art content. They're pretty much like the old weekly vlogs you can still see on my YouTube channel. All Members have access to personal vlogs.
- Studio vlogs are art focused on a single art project or art-related topic. Past studio vlogs include: behind-the-scenes of putting together an online class, a studio tour, the process of making my giant tree mural, etc. Maker Members & Super Learner Members have access to the studio vlogs.
Hope you had a safe & healthy March. Here's the coming of Spring!
Thanks for stopping by!

There are several people whom I follow whose work is not my style, but their spirit invigorates me. Of course, my style is ever shifting, so who knows what the inspiration will do. As always, love that boy. Thanks

I love all that you share including your adorable and curious photo of your son. He will be painting in no time. My first son was such a difficult baby and little boy that the only way to calm him down was to give him playdoe and markers several times a day. Making art was his way to calm. My very first art therapy client ;+)

He is lucky to have a close-by grandma. One of mine was close and I loved spending weekends with them, and then her after my grandpop died. I’d get special chocolate milk – it was a powder that came in a box. So fancy! The chocolate milk I got at home (few and far between) was Hershey’s syrup in a can opened with a church key. Yep. I’m old.

While I agree Sheila’s colors are not yours, I think it’s interesting you think her style is different than yours. To my eye, there are definite similarities. Thanks for introducing her to us. I always enjoy seeing your art crushes. I’m still stuck on Polina Oshu.
