AJEDHeader2020

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, the concept is simple: It's a commitment to take ten minutes each day to do something in your art journal.  No need to finish anything or even like it.  It's about making the time to nourish your creativity every day!  If you have the time to flip through your phone, you have the time to Art Journal Every Day.  If you'd like to share what you make, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  You can find new Art Journal Every Day posts here on the blog most Fridays.  The archives go back to the first Art Journal Every Day post in 2010.

Back in 2011, I created an online class called, Stencil 101.  Believe it or not, people didn't know how to use stencils.  At all.  They were like these crazy weird things that confused people's brains. So, when I released my first line of stencils with The Crafter's Workshop, I created a free class to help people understand how to use stencils.

Fast forward nine years later and people know a lot more.  I know a lot more.  So I decided to revamp the class a bit.

I recorded a few new videos and moved the class from my online classroom to an e-mail class — meaning, you get each lesson delivered to your inbox.  If you'd like to check it out, it's totally free and you can sign up HERE.  The class has eight lessons in ten e-mails and covers everything from how different mediums perform with stencils to how to choose which stencils to buy.

In honor of the revamp, I put together this one-minute fast forward version of the lesson on layering:

You can see the real time video in the class.

In the meantime, I decided to take my stencils to my art journal for a little bit of play time, using the principles I teach in that lesson.  Here's what I made:

It's a little bit different from what I normally do.  And I'm excited about that.  One of the things I love about teaching is how it re-inspires me.  I was definitely re-inspired to use my stencils for insane layering after making the video.

I hope you do some insane layering this weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thank you, Julie, for this opportunity to re explore stencils. I forget to use mine. (My stash does include some of your early Crafters Workshop stencils.) And, with so many choices on the market, I also need help w selecting new ones. So I am eagerly looking forward to your emails on stenciling.
