Exploring Art Products: MISTI (Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented)

I'm late to the party.  The MISTI or "Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented" has been around for several years.  I've often looked at it, but never necessarily felt it was "for me."  Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to try it out in January at Creativation and I surprised myself by really liking it.  And the folks at MISTI surprised me by gifting me with a MISTI to take home.  #Printinktober was apparently the push I needed to take it out of the box and start to play.  And now that it's out, I really don't want to put it away again!

I filmed my experiments with the MISTI — mistakes, discoveries, finger pinching, and more.  Here's the video:

Here are some of the prints I made in the video:

Do you have the MISTI?  Any tips?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Absolutely keep the magnets from colliding because they will shatter. And have fun with this tool. The foam can be removed if you are stamping with rubber so that the lid is not at a screwy angle when contact is made between stamp and paper. PS: I love your stamps, I’ll go now and order the flower set. 🙂

  • Wrap the magnets in masking tape to give yourself a little handle tab. Easier to pick them up. If they do break, just use the broken pieces. Ask me how I have three magnets now!
You can also purchase a separate bar magnet which holds the paper more firmly.
You can also use a glue stick (or double sided tape) on the back of small stamps to to temporarily adhere them to the plastic door. Remove glue stick residue with a damp cloth. I have heard some people use Burt’s Bee lip gloss the same way.

  • Use the little clear adhesive glue dots on the back of your rubber stamps to hold them in place.

  • This looks like a great tool. I have not been much of a stamper, so I think this would help me keep things cleaner as I stamp. Thanks for the demonstration.

  • I love my MISTI. I had wished I could use it with hand-carved stamps, but hadn’t figured out how. You are so clever.
A couple of tips in case you haven’t thought of them yet. Put a paper grid over your foam; them you won’t have to worry about getting ink on the foam. Also, when you were unboxing, I think I saw a transparency with the grid. That’s very helpful with lining up stamps you already have ink on. Put the grid over the paper you are using, put the transparency over that, and then you can futz around with your inky stamp to your heart’s content. 🙂

  • I just recently got a stamp platform too! And I love it! I have quite a few bare rubber stamps and hand carved. I’ve found that chapstick is awesome for adhesive. Wipes right off if you store loose, or clings to the case if you use CD cases. Thanks for this video…I have not seen anyone use the platform for printing. Now I gotta try!

  • ScanNCut stamps would be the same as any silicone stamps. Glue gun stamps youd have to figure out how to adhere them.
