Columbus Museum of Art: Part Two

Welcome to Part Two of my Columbus Museum of Art visit!  On this visit, I was introduced to and fell in love with the work of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson.

I will take a moment to once again recommend the excellent book I purchased in the Columbus Museum of Art gift shop: Symphonic Poem: The Art of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson.

And now, some more familiar artists:

This Star Wars art is not necessarily my cup of tea, but I thought it was important to show what a range of art the museum has on display (plus, I live with a Star Wars superfan):

This next series of photos is from a wonderful immersion room where you could make spiders from tinfoil and weave part of these floor-to-ceiling tapestries.  There were mannequins for you to try your hand at dressing.  Just lots and lots of fun with textiles!

I hope you enjoyed that trip to the museum as much as I did!  I didn't see everything the museum had to offer, but that's not the point, is it?  Rather, my brain is jazzed and full of information and new ideas.  I truly love art museums!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Wow – you were in my neck of the woods – I live in Columbus and pass by the museum almost daily. I used to work at the public library at the downtown location which used to have a HUGE mural by Aminah Robinson across the staircase from the first to second and second to third floors in the big open atrium. It was colorful and fabulous! I can see why you love her work. I’m so glad you got a chance to visit our museum! I listen to your podcast ALL the time! Most of the museums and exhibits I hear you and your mom talk about I won’t get a chance to go and visit – but it will be interesting to hear what you have to say about our museum and the current exhibits. I’ll definitely go now – I’m not always good about visiting museums as I should be – you are inspiring me! I hope you have enjoyed your visit to Ohio and to Columbus.

  • I appreciated seeing your photos of the Mary Cassatt paintings. I have only ever seen one original of hers, “Breakfast in Bed” (1897), at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, California. I was so taken with it that I put up a print in my office at work. One day a male co-worker asked about it and I gave him a rather long critique of the painting and the painter. As his interests were in a different direction, he didn’t ask again! I still love Mary Cassatt’s work and es[ecoa;;u “Breakfast in Bed”. How fun to see the works of other artists as well. Makes for a good compare/contrast session.
