I definitely can feel that I'm in the home stretch with this project.  Some thoughts at the moment:

  • It's actually AMAZING what you can get done in just 15 minutes.  For many years I've been an advocate of dedicating 10 minutes a day to your art journal.  I am often met by skepticism.  How much can you do in 10 measly minutes?!  But, the answer is a lot!
  • I'm really glad that I pushed through my desire to quit (and thank you to all of you who encouraged me to continue).  I don't have a problem with quitting.  If something isn't working for you, you should walk away.  But, I feel that my work is getting better through doing this project.  And therefore, I felt that I needed to push through the hard stuff.
  • I spent some time reviewing the various faces I've made and found myself re-inspired!  It's a trick that I've used in art journaling for years.  When I'm stuck, I page through an old art journal and it gives me lots of ideas (even if they're ones I've already had).
  • For the first time, I worked on a face for more than one day.  You'll see that I worked on it in 15 minute bursts for 3 days and then on the 4th day, I cut it up and spent the next few days painting faces on the cut up pieces (you can see a video of this process embedded in my vlog, around the 2:06 mark.)
  • I feel like I'm a more confident face maker at this point.  I have learned more about how faces are put together from this daily experience.  That's exciting.  I can see that knowledge revealing itself as faces become easier to create and even abstracted faces have a slightly more realistic feeling!

Without any further ado, here are the faces:

Do you recognize this face?

It's face #76 worked on for an additional 15 minutes.

With another 15 minutes it looks like this:

I was still unhappy with it, so I cut it into pieces and used those pieces to create the next series of four faces:

  • Good Morning Julie,
These faces as all that you have shown are fabulous. Just think doing these faces without someone sitting for the portraits.
Fantastic job. Really enjoy seeing your creations.

  • You have definitely made great strides in your faces project. Before your 100 day project, it seemed like all of the faces you were drawing had the same mouth, the same nose, and the same eyes. Now, your faces are so much more interesting because each one has its very own features. I love them! Congratulations on your perseverance. You have certainly been rewarded and you have inspired so many of us that tend to get discouraged and give up. Keep up the good work.
