As you know, I spent two days at MoMA when I was last in NYC. I thought I'd share a few more photos from that visit. Enjoy!
I am currently struggling with two canvases at the moment (you can take a peek at them on my instagram account). Looking back at these photos I am reminded of how hard art is sometimes. I mean, standing in the museum looking at the canvases I am often dismissive: "Oh, that's stupid." "I could do that." "That's not art." "That's ugly." But when I really look at these photos and study the details I can see how much time and effort is invested in every little inch — all of the decisions, all of the agonizing, all of the training, all of the thought, all of the angst, all of the hope, all of it. And though I am struggling with my own work at the moment, I find deep satisfaction in looking at these photos and realizing that I'm part of a very long timeline — a very large community — of men and women all of the world who have and who are having the same conversation of hope and despair with a piece of art we're creating. Do you feel the same way?
Thanks for stopping by!

YES!!! That though is the wonder of the abstract. The artist is able to convey whatever he/she is feeling without hitting the viewer over the head with it. And perhaps allows the viewer to take away something completely different. Always love your museum shares!!!

There are days when creating art is pure fun–and other days, or maybe weeks, when it is just plain hard work. I often set an unfinished piece somewhere that I can see it as I walk by and agonize over what it needs. Most of the time it will eventually tell me what to add, or perhaps take away. You are right about the comforting knowledge that artists everywhere struggle the same way with their work.
Thank you for sharing your museum trips with us.

It is a dream of mine to visit NYC and MoMa… thanks for this ‘virtual tour’ Julie and yes, I feel the same. What you said could have been written by me (if my English was better, ha!) Have a great week!

Funny, I absolutely love Sackcloth and I can’t tell you why. I could look at it for quite a while and get lost in it. Who would have thought? Thanks for the tour.

I have been to MOMA some years ago and it is good to refresh memory of some of the interesting work that is displayed there. I appreciated it more this morning looking at your blog as I have more time to just soak it in and appreciate what the artist was offering the world. I am returning to NYC in May for a visit and hope to take time to visit it again. Your comments were appreciated on what you saw and felt as well.

I do feel the same way–and it’s always worth the struggle, both to see and to do. When you wonder why something hangs in a museum, look for the reason–is it the texture? The colors? The effect it has on the viewer? Always something to learn!
