Some exciting news!  ScanNCut is hiring!  If you've got a background in marketing, I encourage you to apply for the job of Product Marketing Manager.  I think Brother is a great company and I really enjoy the work I do with them!

Now, let's get to the crafting!  I've got two ScanNCut technique tutorials for you today!  I hope you enjoy them.

This first tutorial is all about how to etch balsa wood.

Here are the pieces from the video:

And here, as I mentioned in the video, you can see what happens if you set the blade too deep:

I think these would make great coasters, be super cute as placards on a journal cover, and make for awesome Christmas ornaments.  You could even do a long 12×24 home decor piece for your wall, and so much more!

This second tutorial is all about how to create distinct cutting and drawing lines.  Watch the video for the how-to:

And here's the flower we cut out in the video:

I hope you'll give these techniques a try!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut.  It is a machine that I love and use.  All projects and opinions are my own.

  • Hi julie,
These tutorials are wonderful. Finally seeing real balsa wood at its finest being cut with the scan n cut. Great tutorial.
The second one makes me want to take a page or two out of some old Harry potter books that I have. I could see this technique being made into maybe a book mark or scrap booking using your favorite old books.
I cannot wait for the embossing tool to come out for sale. Was there also a stippling tool? I will look forward to getting these new accessories.
You have a great Tuesday. Thanks for showing us these nifty videos.
