As you probably know, I love my Koi Watercolors from Sakura of America. I've happily used them for many years! I travel with both the box of 12…

…and the box of 24…

…depending on how much space I have in my luggage. You can see that the box of 24 is larger than the box of 12:

When I was in the Sakura booth at CHA in January, the good folks at Sakura were kind enough to give me their brand new box of 30 colors to try out! (I was definitely the kid in grade school who wanted the big box of crayons, not the little one.) In this video you can see me playing around with it for the first time. I know that I like their watercolors, so it was really just checking out what was different about this new set.
Are you a fan of Koi Watercolors? Is there a different brand that you prefer? I'd love to hear all about it!
Thanks for stopping by!

I love to follow your blog with a lot of exciting things happening 😀 – I wonder. Does the Koi gives an opportunity to get refils?
Kind regards
Mariane

Love your exuberance as I watch you very early on a Wednesday morning. I bought the small kit of Koi recently, that’s all I could find locally. I wondered about color refills as well, although not sure if the kit was designed for this. Thanks again for the video presentation!

Thanks – I’ve used and loved my Koi for years but never thought to use the lid as an easel. What a great idea. I do think the water brush is a little stiff making my pots have “holes” in the paint very quickly and am trying to find a nice soft watercolor water brush. Do they make such a thing?

Thanks for the review, Julie! I’m taking a trip soon and looking for a nice watercolor set to bring along.
I just learned this about filling those waterbrushes: You don’t have to take the plug thingy off. You can hold the barrel in a glass of water and squeeze, and the water will go right up into the barrel. I was always pulling the plug off and afraid I would damage it, so was glad to learn a different way.

Ha! I was looking at the Koi 24 just the other day, and didn’t get it–now I know why! I must have gotten a cosmic note that the 30 was coming!

i just startede using watercolors about 6 weeks ago, and a friend gave me the Koi box of 24. I love them, they mix so well and give great, easy to use colors.

I love my 18-color set of Koi watercolors. I ordered it from Amazon about a month or so ago. The case is so cool with a little removable palette. It also came with a handy water brush. A few of the colors are almost gone already, but I plan to refill the empties with liquid colors. The colors are vibrant and easy to draw on after the paint dries. I’d definitely recommend them.

Hello Julie, here in Germany it is very difficult to get Koi Watercolors. My prefered go to is Schmincke Studio Watercolors. I just love their colors. They are highly pigmented and great to mix.
