I was at the grocery store this week and I saw that they were selling disposable wooden cutlery as an alternative to plastic cutlery.  I immediately thought of the crafty possibilities!  So, I took them home with me and decided to take my wood burning tool to them.

This is what they look like straight out of the package:

I rounded up my supplies…

…a wood burning tool, a piece of sandpaper (it is cutlery after all, and has to be smooth to be used), and a glass mat.

Here are the three sets of cutlery I made:

Looks like I need to get the sandpaper out and smooth out that fork!  I can really see the rough edges in these photos!

After spending the time decorating them, I'll confess that I'm not sure that I want to use them…but perhaps I'll be brave and just remember that I can always make more!  I also think they'd make for cute kitchen decorations grouped by cutlery type like so:

I might even punch a hole in them and use them as ornaments on the Christmas tree!

What would you use these wood burned forks, knives, and spoons for?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Cute as kitchen accessories but I don’t think that I could use them to eat on after making them so nice (not to mention the chance of splinters). LOL
Christmas tree ornaments and/or decorations on a gift (kinda like a tag).

  • Thanks for sharing. It is fascinating how you see the simple and can make it so visually beautiful! Related to the podcast that you and your mom talked about the museum visit which was an incredible experience to listen. I found your mom’s analogy of having a limited amount of art materials and putting into a creative vision to how she has certain ingredients to use in cooking was fascinating. I never looked at cooking that way before. Your mom definitely expresses her creativity through food and ingredients. I just love listening to both of you and your guests. Thank you so much. So rich with layers of information.

  • Use them them to be the numbers on a kitchen clock. I like clocks, you get the moter part at craft store.
The forks could go in little pots, to hold a receipt or a photo, or a quote you hand lettered and use as gifts.

  • So cool! I’ve seen these at the market as well, but would have never thought to try wood burning on them. Turning them into ornaments is a great idea, too!

  • While these do look fun to make, I think I’ll stick to eating with real knives and forks and spoons. But I’ll keep these in mind the next arts and crafts day we have with our children
