from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournalIf you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I've got some more August daily pages to share with you today!  I haven't managed to crack open my art journal since moving.  It's terrible and I feel guilty about it.  I have a million excuses.  But then I remember my own advice: be kind to yourself.  Journaling every day is a goal, not a mandate.  As soon as my studio space is set up, I'm sure the art journal will come out and I will get back to it!

This spread features an insert made up of a tag and a bunch of die cuts that I glued together and painted.

One of the reasons I leave the bindings a little loose on my journals is so that I can add interesting little pages like this as I go along.

This stamped piece is an extra from when I did the ScanNCut masking video.  Nothing goes to waste when there's an art journal around!

This next page has no journaling, but features some pretty hand lettering! There's also no paint on this page!  It's all markers!

  • I love the idea of using a two page spread for several days of art journaling instead of trying to fill a page each day. I would love to art journal every day but I’m always intimidated with the time it takes to fill an entire page! I could do 10 minutes… Maybe I’ll join in next week! 🙂
And I totally understand being out of the habit after moving. We bought a new house in June and we’re still settling in! My basement studio space needed remodeling, so I’m currently working in the dining room, which is less than ideal…

  • Julie, I really like the quote. About living less out of habit. So much of my life is habit, and I miss so much because of not being intentional. Hope things are going well with the new place.

  • Great pages Julie! And yes, don’t be too hard on yourself. I have lots of (nearly) empty pages’ in the 2014 Chronicles art journal – I couldn’t journal in the Month that I moved and took notes on a scrap of paper… when I finally got back to the journal I was uninspired to ‘do something’ with those notes so I just glued them onto the pages and moved on working on the new weeks. Looking back, the ’emptiness’ of the pages remind me of the mixed feelings I had at the time and so those pages became significant after all.

  • I always like seeing your journaling pages and what techniques you used but these two pages really caught my eye. Great idea to use the tags and cutouts as an insert (that face on the backside is so clear and colourful). I have never been a fan of colouring with markers before but I do love this page sprear you done using just markers. Make me want to get out my stack of markers and play a while.
