Back in 2011 I attempted sun printing for the first time. I wrote all about it here. It remains one of my favorite easy and magical experiences. Simply put, you paint your fabric, slap down some stencils, come back an hour later, and you have printed fabric! Magic!

Balzer Bits are perfect for sun printing because you don't have to deal with any of the hard edges of the square stencils.

I used that fabric to make a second jewelry roll, as many of you suggested. :)
Now Mom and I can both have travel jewelry rolls! Of course, now I have to figure out which one to give her and which one to keep for myself….

I love stencils so much that I’m kinda designing my layouts around the stencils I have! I just used one yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that….etc. I love your project and I’m going to see if this works on paper!

My granddaughters and I used stencils on cloth to make a pencil case. They are hoping to sell the cases at a craft fair at their elementary school. What fun!

The only issue with that is the shopping that usually follows if there is something I don’t have, more an issue with hubby on that part, LOL. The last stencils I used this week on a canvas I’m making baby sis for her birthday. I am definitely trying this now, I have muslin but it’s not bleached, curious if that will work and what is PFD description on the fabric?

My last stencil project was just last week and I used your cat bit to make a faux letterpress card. I loved it !! Worked really well and that cat is , well, just plain adorable !
The sun printing is very cool. It actually came out the opposite of what I expected. I thought the open areas would fade leaving the covered areas as the colour. So call me surprised !! The mask must intensify the sun’s power … or some thing like that, lol. Anyway, it’s on the list to try !! Thanks !

The last time I used a stencil was Tuesday when I was doing my picture for LifeBook 2015. I love using stencils and am building my collection. I do painting on silk also but have never tried sun printing. Love the results! It’s next on my list to try!

This fabric turned out great! The colors are beautiful. And, I will say that I was more than a little nervous as you were placing all of those random bits on, but I should have known better. You are fearless and whatever you do turns out really great! The last thing that I used stencils on would be a journal page, I think. It may have been a little journal that I built. One of the two!

Love the fabric and the jewelry roll. I like that all of the prints were not perfect. Definitely on my “to try” list as I have done cyanotypes (sunprints) many times before and like the process.
I use stencils to just decorate papers of all kinds then later cut them up, add transfers, stamped images (from my own stamps–of course) and add pen drawing as well. The eventually end up wall-hanging collages or cards.

The last time I used a stencil was to add stars and circles to the inside of invitations to my dad’s 90th birthday party. It was more work than I expected, but it’s my dad and he will be 90th. Without the added shapes, the inside of the card looked bland. BTW another great technique–fabric sun prints. Thanks Julie.

I love stencils and use them all time and plenty of them are yours! I just use one a few days ago on a book cover. Also great job with the sun print. I actually taught this to all levels of Girl Scouts at camp last year. We didn’t use stencils but a variety of natural and found objects, punchinella, rick rack, etc. I’ll have to try it again with some Bits!

I use stencils to create fabrics for my quilts. I use fabric paints all the time and “sunprint” (which is actually the migration of the paint as it dries) with various found objects. Now I can hardly wait to use my Balzer bits. It’s a whole different look! Thanks for the inspiration.

Used a stencil on my gelli plate. Looked great. Love the round stencils on the round gelli plate. Question about scribbled rose bit??? Are there 2 versions? One simple and one with more marks between lines? Am I confused? Trying to find the more-lines version. I noticed you used both in the sun print video. Different names maybe? Thanks Tina

I used a beautiful Morroccan stencil on my nature printed leaves, ran this combination through the printing press, and produced a unique artwork. The arches of the stencils harmonize with the curves of the leaves to add a new dimension to the print. Hi I’ve never used a stencil even though I’ve got a couple. I’ve never really known what to do with them and lacked inspiration…. until now that is! The kids have loads of boring white t-shirts so I know what I’m going to be doing, and I can get the kids involved too. Fantastic. Thanks hun for the idea. xx
