Art Journal Every Day: More November 2013 Dailies

ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I've got some more November pages to share today.  It's so interesting to go back and look at those pages.  Reading my journaling is always an interesting and awkward experience.  I tend to be very raw and honest about what's going on and reading it weeks or months later I sometimes cringe at what I've said or what was going on in my life. Do you ever feel that way?

1-RomanticCouple-wm

I showed this page when it was very much in progress, right after I had carved the flower stamp.

1-Detail3-wm

After stamping I used a white Sharpie to add some highlights!

1-Detail1-wm

I also used a series of hand carved stamps to create some demarcations between journal entries.

1-Detail2-wm

This is an image I cut out of The New York Times and then doodled a frame around.

2-LongFace-wm

After drawing this face I felt that (a) she looked sad and (b) it was a bit long (especially in the nose area).  Thus, the double entendre caption.

2-Detail1-wm

This is another mostly marker face.

2-Detail2-wm

This is a postcard I was given at a Jane Austen convention.  Yes, a Jane Austen convention.  It was stuck on my mirror for a long time and then I decided that I'd rather have it safely ensconsed in one of my journals.  So, in it went!

2-Detail3-wm

You'll notice that the corner of this page is torn.  One of the fun things about making your own journal is that you can bind in all sorts of papers, even ones that aren't rectangular and/or have bits missing.

3-HealthInsurance-wm

I ran out of red paint and so I used yellow for the rest.  I'm really glad.  I think the page is so much more interesting with the color change. All one color would be boring.

3-Detail1-wm

Some paint leaked through my binding.  So, I made lemonade, so to speak.  I camoflauged the leak with some funky patterning.

3-Detail2-wm

You can see that I did a purposely bad job of coloring in the letters.  I like the look of an active line.  I think it creates energy!

4-Patterns-wm

I did these patterns ages ago and when I bound this sheet of paper into my journal, I intended to cover them up.  But, when I got to this page, I just couldn't do it.  C'est la vie.

  • Once again, your pages inspire me to keep trying new things! I don’t do a lot of journaling on my pages but often a thought or line about what’s going on in my head does make it’s way onto the page. Your work encourages me to explore and find my OWN unique style. Thank you!
    Peace,

  • Uh, in answer to your question…do you ever cringe looking back at what you wrote or what was happening in your life? That would be a big Oh, Yeah! 🙂 But isn’t that part of the journey and how we grow? just like I cringe looking back on some early art that I created? LOL

  • Beautiful pages. Love your “marker face” I think that is really hard to do as beautifully as you did it.

  • I certainly am familiar with that cringe of embarrassment when going back to old entries. It takes a lot of courage to put the words down and leave them there.
Also, your selective bits of blurring make me SO curious! Haha.
I’ll be back within the next couple days to add my link to the list. Thanks again for being an inspiration!

  • After seeing all of your journal page postings, two, no three things happened….1) it has inspired me to start working in my own journal(s) again, starting anew…2) I learned a new, great idea, to work in a hardbound book and cover all of the pages in paint, etc., as a new type of journal; and 3) to let you know how much I appreciate your honest (raw?) blog and your posts. It’s one of the reasons why I love you and your blog so much…you’re so real, truthful and inspiring. I don’t miss a day of your “news”. Hope 2014 is very prosperous, healthy and artful!
