Since Christmas I've been keeping my hands busy with a large stitching project. I've been sharing progress photos on instagram, some of which I included in this "Weekend Five" blog post. I work on my embroidery in fits and starts — mostly while traveling or during TV time.
Here's what it looks like right now:
This is my embroidery kit:
- DMC 6-strand embroidery floss (I divide it and stitch with 2 strands at a time.)
- Embroidery scissors
- Mechanical Pencil (This is how I mark the design as I go.)
- Needle Case
Here's what it looks like out of the hoop:
I'm a self-taught embroider, so I don't always do things the "right" way. But, I'm enjoying it and that's really the point isn't it? I've got a long ways to go before it's done, but I don't mind. I really enjoy the process of hand stitching. It's very meditative.
I'll be sure to share pictures when I'm finished…in about a million years. ;)

Absolutely beautiful and amazing!! I always say embroidery is my Prozac! I embroidered some shorts last summer…and I love them sooo much, I am cutting off more pants as we speak, so I can make more embroidered shorts. I’ve never thought of doing a face like this. So cool–I just love it love it love it!

At the end of the school year all the girls would show off their projects like huge tablecloths, seven day dish cloths, etc. Mine was always one dish cloth LOL. But, I did learn to stitch several different stitches. When I got married, I did make a table cloth with six napkins, but it took me five years to finsih!
