Welcome to Stencil-a-Palooza! Several days a week for the next month or so I'll be featuring one of my eighteen stencil designs for The Crafter's Workshop! Each post comes with a giveaway. Leave a comment answering the question-of-the-day and you might be the winner of that day's featured stencil in both 6×6 and 12×12! Comments will remain open on this post for seventy-two hours. Today I've got a stencil hop with seven stunningly talented ladies:
- Lori Vliegan: I have long admired Lori's beautiful lettering. She is an accomplished ilustrator and book maker.
- Bianca Mandity: She is on the faculty of the Indianapolis Art Center and travels all over the country representing Copic, where she is in charge of all of their fine arts education.
- Claudine Hellmuth: She is an illustrator, teacher, and author of two books (Collage Discovery Workshop and The Scrapbooker's Creativity Kit). Claudine also has a signature line of paints and brushes and stamps with Ranger.
- Kerry Lynn Yeary: She has a wonderful vintage style and is on the design teams for 7gypsies and Jenni Bowlin, plus she designs lovely vintage digital kits for TwoPeas.
- Samantha Kira Harding: She is an art journaler extraordinaire! And now she has a line of stamps coming out through Paperbag Studios with her whimsical hand drawn designs and lettering!
- Diana Trout: She is the author of the fabulous book Journal Spilling: Mixed Media Techniques for Free Expression. And Diana has a free class on watercolor that you can find here.
- Mou Saha: Mou is back for more stencil madness! You'll remember her colorful canvas project from the "Words" Hop two weeks ago. And you've certainly seen her creative scrapbook pages in every single issue of Creating Keepsakes Magazine for the past few years.
With so much talent, I couldn't just send these ladies one stencil. I had to send them two stencils! They got TCW229 Rain (which I talked about yesterday)…
…and TCW230 Clouds (which I'm going to cover today)!
When I designed the Clouds stencil I wanted something very stylized with a lot of open space. Why the open space? For funky filling, of course!
Here's a card where I filled the clouds with doodles:
I got the idea to do the doodling in the clouds after creating this (unfinished) art journal page:
You can see that I also used the Rain Stencil for doodled drops in three sizes!

Of course, you don't have to fill the clouds. They're lovely just as clouds!
I had fun using the Clouds Stencil to create a dream like background in my art journal:

…inspired me to create this scrapbook page:
And does that journaling spot look familiar? It should! It's a cloud turned on its side! I'm always looking for fun journaling shapes and I simply traced a cloud shape onto white cardstock and cut it out to create the fun shaped journaling card you see!

Have to say I really loved Lori’s one! Nice use of the stencils to create something different. Loved the colors as well. The fact that it was ice cream, didnt hurt one bit. At all. Also slightly jealous of her lettering abilities. Haha.

Tough question! I liked the variety of styles, techniques and projects. I never would have thought to use the stencils to create an ice cream cone or felt cloud! However, what blew me away about Claudine’s bag was the thought that I think I could do this!

I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s creations. I’d have to say though that Lori’s was my favorite! I love how she took clouds and rain and made ice cream…such a treat. And I LOVE ice cream!

I loved Mou’s layout, but I’m most blown away by all the fabulous ways you used the stencils–love the doodling and stamping (can’t wait to try them). Is there a tutorial for the techniques used on the “Floating” layout? It’s stunning!

Personally, I loved what you have done with the stencils the most. However, if I had to choose between the designers you invited I would have to say Diana Trout – so creative! But she just edged out Lori Vliegen.

I would have to say Diana Trout’s use of the two stencils was beyond inspiring- The shapes are so versatile (not JUST clouds and raindrops) and that coupled with using bright and bold colors= mind blowing!

Lori just blew me away by using the clouds to make that ice cream cone, and YES, her lettering is AMaaaaZING!!! Love her watercoloring too! GORGEOUS! BTW, I’ve got lots of TCW stencils, but I’ve been wanting the clouds and rain since they came out! LOL

Everyone’s projects were amazing but I think Lori Vliegan’s project was my favorite because it was so inspiring to see how the stencil could be repurposed to create something totally different. I added some new artists to my blog reader, that’s for sure! 🙂
