Paperclipping Home
Paperclipping Roundtable is a podcast all about paper crafts — mostly focused on scrapbooking.  It's about an hour long (I usually listen while I'm crafting).  You can listen to it through the paperclipping site or through itunes.  Each episode features a general topic, news from the scrapbooking industry, and product picks.  The show is hosted by Noell Hyman and her husband/producer Izzy.  Nancy Nally of Scrapbook Update does the news.  Guests include people like Ali Edwards, Stacy Julian, Claudine Hellmuth…and now me!

I've been listening to the roundtable for a while and was so totally delighted when I got the e-mail asking me to participate.  I may or may not have jumped out of my chair and yipped a few times.  Maybe.

So here's how it worked.

At the appointed time, Izzy called us all via Skype.  I was the first one on the line.  Claudine Hellmuth and Lain Ehmann soon joined us.  Noell talked us through the basics of how the show would work.  Izzy had each of us count to ten to do a sound level check, and then we were off!

Before we started, I grabbed a piece of scrap paper to write notes on.  Plus, I knew I was going to have to do a "product pick" and I wanted to make sure that I had the official name and correct price for mine.  Well, here's what my paper looked like at the end of the show:

A few notes.  A lot of doodles, and somewhere along the way I grabbed a leftover piece of a carving block and a cutting tool that were sitting on my desk and carved a little decorative stamp.  You can see the test prints above and here is the actual stamp:

I find that I listen better if my hands are busy doing something mindless.  I used to cross stitch in class when I was in college. I know it looks like I'm not paying attention, but it helps me to concentrate and really hear what's going on, because my mind can't wander.  My husband and I are reading a book together right now.  He reads a chapter aloud each night and I do something to keep my hands busy.  It helps me focus on the story.

Back to the podcast — the topic was alternative memory keeping.  The episode is called "Taking it Beyond the Page."  We chatted about our methods, our journeys, and even a bit about where to put it all!  I'd love it if you'd give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • A friend recommended I tune into Paperclipping…and I swear I’ll get around to it someday. I’m so technically disinclined and have given up on trying to figure it out twice. I’ll get there, though!

  • I listen to Roundtable every week – I love it. I wasn’t sure about this week’s topic because I am not a mixed media artist. I only started using paint in my scrapbooking about 2 weeks ago. I love it but I’m not sure what to do with it.
You were a great guest today and I have you to thank for introducing me to art journaling. wow! I’m hooked. I was so excited to try it I whipped up 2 pages tonight. So, if you have any advice for a brand-newbie please share.
I look forward to reading through your blog archives and following you in the future. I hope to hear you again on Paperclipping Roundtable.

  • Cathie: Thank you so much for your comment!  Ive been trying to think of some advice for you.  I think the only thing I would say is, let yourself fail.  Let your art journal pages be huge disasters.  I have always found that when I let go — stop holding so tightly to the idea of them being art — I like the results so much better!  And I grow every time I hate them too!  Hope that helps you!
