Prima + Ranger = Early Valentine’s Day!

Like peanut butter and jelly.

Like mac and cheese.

Like fun and scrapbooking.

Some things just go together.

Today, I want to talk about Prima and Ranger.  A love match for sure!  Take a peek:

First up, a masculine flower layout.  Gotta' love the beauty of brown and red together.

Check out the details:

I inked my journaling with two colors of brown Distress ink before adhering it to the layout.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but I used Distressed Stickles on the tiny hearts before I stitched them down.  When working with Distress Stickles, I like to apply them with my finger and then dry them with a heat gun.  It gives a kind of beautiful chunky glass glitter look!

This is a new-to-me technique discovery!  I was fooling around with my supplies and figured out that you can dye Prima's white paper flowers with alcohol inks for a soft painterly look.  And the metallic mixatives don't blend!  That's how I was able to get the polka dots.  Cool, right?

Next up is a very glittery tag:

I think that photo is just about life size!  Here are the details:

Here's a quick step-by-step:

  1. Punch scalloped circles from leftover scraps of patterned paper.
  2. Outline each circle with silver Stickles.  Let dry.
  3. Rub 3-5 colors of Distress Ink onto a craft sheet and spray with water.  Dip tag into ink and dry with a heat gun.  Repeat until all the ink is gone from the craft sheet.
  4. Use your finger to cover the tag with Distress Stickles.  Dry with a heat gun.  (It's a bit  hard to see the background sparkle in the photos, but it's worth the extra effort.  It gives the whole tag a wonderful vintage glamor.)
  5. Write “forever” across the top of the tag with silver Stickles.  (The tip of the Stickles bottle is so fine that this is quite easy!)
  6. Use two colors of alcohol ink to dye the white roses pink.  Use the darker color inside and the lighter color on the outside.  (I just drop the color straight from the bottle.)
  7. Using an ink blending tool, rub brown Distress Ink over the tips of the petals.
  8. Squirt gold stickles into the center of the roses.  Let dry.
  9. Adhere scalloped circles to tag.
  10. Adhere roses to the three circles on the left.
  11. Adhere letters to the three scalloped circles on the right.

This is more of a romantic layered tag:

Step-by-step:

  1. Cover tag with Distress Ink using the ink blending tool.
  2. Paint tag with Crackle Paint and let dry.
  3. Punch a scalloped circle from a scrap of patterned paper.
  4. Apply gold Stickles around the edge of the scalloped circle.  Let dry.
  5. Cut a heart from red felt and staple to the center of the scalloped circle.
  6. Hand cut a “love you” from black cardstock and adhere over the felt heart.  (If you don't want to hand cut, use stickers or die cuts instead!)
  7. Punch the edges of a collection of strips of paper scraps.  Pleat them and stitch them down to the bottom of the tag with a sewing machine.
  8. Dye white flowers with alcohol inks.
  9. Cut small hearts from scraps of patterned paper.  Apply Distress stickles to the hearts and dry with a heat gun.  Staple the hearts to the centers of the flowers.
  10. Adhere scalloped circle and then flowers to tag.
  11. Adhere black swirl along the bottom left side of the tag.
  12. Adhere a white rose on top of the flowers and apply red Distress Stickles with your finger.  Let dry.

This final tag is a more modern, clean look:

Step-by-Step:

  1. Stamp the music notes with Archival Ink at the bottom of the tag.
  2. Using an ink blending tool, ink the tag with pale blue Distress Ink. Stamp a few butterflies across the tag with the same ink.
  3. Stamp the frame stamp with Distress Embossing Ink and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  4. Spray tag with yellow, orange, and red homemade glimmer mist.  Let dry.
  5. Stamp 2 large butterflies and 1 small butterfly with black Archival Ink.
  6. Using an ink blending tool, add color to the edges of the butterfly wings.
  7. Cut out butterflies.
  8. Apply gold Stickles to the center of each butterfly.  Let dry.
  9. Adhere red number to the upper right side of the tag.
  10. Adhere photo to tag with tiny staples in an “x” shape.
  11. Type journaling and ink the paper with Distress Ink.  Adhere to tag along the right side of the photo.
  12. Use foam adhesive to adhere butterflies to tag.

And now my favorite project (is artwork like children and you just aren't supposed to pick a favorite?):

SoHappyTogether-sm
I hand cut a template of eight hearts and then used it to create the three tags (the template itself is on the tag furthest to the right).  And I used a beautiful scrolly Prima stamp to add a romantic feeling to all the grunge. (And there's that cursive typewriter again!)

SoHappyTogetherDetail1-sm
I went a little Distress Stickle crazy on this one too!  I used Rock Candy (or clear) Distress Stickles on these tiny tags…

SoHappyTogetherDetail2-sm
…and then used a mixture of Rock Candy and Tattered Rose Distress Stickles on the flower/heart banner.

Well, that's all from me.  But plenty of girls from the Prima team are mixing up Ranger and Prima, so be sure to visit all their blogs!
