I took a month long break from Pencil Lines.  Too much travel, too many "to dos."  I'm delighted to be back for sketch 205.  Here's a peek at the sketch…

…and then my layout.

Check out the details:

The circles are (1) hand cut, (2) brushed with paint, (3) a quick pen outline is added, (4) a button is added, and (5) popped up on foam adhesive.  I don't think I'll ever get away from adding clusters of circles to my layouts.  I just love the way they bring movement and energy to the page.

I am in love with this Cosmo Cricket ledger paper.  It makes neat journaling so very easy!  And here's a tip: do your paint splats first and then write on top of them.  It makes your writing so much more legible!

Swoon!  Is there anything better than Sassafras Lass' border sticker strips?  They make everything so very very easy.  Just peel and stick!

MDetail4-sm
Saving the best for last, this is my favorite part of the layout.  I took a Maya Road chipboard frame an (1) embossed it, (2) painted it, (3) backed it with some painted watercolor paper, and (4) added the letter for my title.  I love how it turned out!

I have to say that today's layout is a perfect example of how sketches help you stretch and make you a better scrapbooker.  I never would have left that huge space between the strips on the top and the photos on the bottom (in fact, I filled it with journaling – but you know what I mean) without the sketch.  I enjoy using a sketch every now and then because it makes me push at my own design instinct boundaries.

How about you?  Are you a fan of the sketch?

  • Using a sketch really frees me up to think about the photos and journaling I want to use, rather than the design.
