Art Journal Every Day

Art Journal Every Day: Sign Up for December

Ali Edwards has been doing her December Daily scrapbook album for I-don't-know-how-many-years.  Over those years she has developed a wonderful system for putting the album together and a cult following for the project across the internet.

Essentially, you build your album ahead of time, generally alotting 1-2 pages for each day of December.  Then, each day during the month of December you stick in your photos, ephemera, and scribble down your thoughts for the day.

Sound familiar?

Sounds a lot like an art journal, doesn't it?!

The line between scrapbook and art journal gets very very thin when we wander into the arena of mini books. Is it a scrapbook or is it an art journal?  Well a lot of that is up to how you, the creator, define it.

I will not be making a separate "December Daily" album.  But I will be journaling daily in my regular album to capture all of the December fun!  And each Friday in December (other than tomorrow) I will share my progress.

So what do you think?  Are you ready to Art Journal Every Day in December?

  • During Yoga yesterday my mind was wandering around like it does and I was thinking about December Daily & Journal Your Xmas. I’ve told myself for the past few years, that I am not going to do a Dec Daily this year or a Journal Your Xmas. IT never works for me, I hardly produce anything and I always get disappointed in myself so I try to let myself off the hook. Problem is, I can’t! It just looks like too much fun so I read the prompts in my inbox, I check out blog posts and put pressure on myself to produce something, but I’m always disappointed. So, the solution that came to me in crow pose (not really, but it sounds good) was that I would just continue on (my first art journal page was in your 30 Days class) in my art journal and that would be my Dec Daily/JYC 2011! I could use the prompts from JYC if I felt like it or maybe draw a Xmas themed picture and paint it and it will hopefully be relaxing and fulfill that need all at the same time as well as give me something tangible to look back on. And the lack of rules that come with the art journal is just so appealing… Then when I stopped by your blog today and saw this – serendipity! I’ve signed up. Fingers crossed this is my answer. Too. Much. Fun!

  • I get so overwhelmed, but this sounds like so much fun. I just have my hands in so much for December, but I think I’m going to give it a try. It can’t hurt, right?

  • I felt the same way as you and kept thinking to do my DD again this year until I took Julie’s class also. What a big change in 30 days, I can’t get enough of my new art journal for December. The idea came during the last week of class so I just started a new journal and love it.
This month is already going to be crazy so this will be relaxing and no rules is what I do best with. Have fun and I will check out your blog and share mine with you too.
    Happy December

  • I am up for this! But no blog so cannot sign up officially! Am catching up with your journaling class -ok so I just did the first day’s page yesterday but who cares! Very exciting – I guess I like the December Daily idea but keeping up with it seems too much and while I would like to put down our traditions I am a bit of a rebel and don’t want to join the “cool crowd” either so being in this crowd works better for me! THANK YOU!!!

  • Great! I cant wait to see what you have done. I just started mine today even though it is Dec 2nd here. Since my supplies are limited and it is hard to start a new journal, Im continuing on in the one I started in the class but my theme is definitely a Christmas/holidays/winter. Enjoy the process!!

Thank you Julie I have journaled more this year than ever before. This works for me. Happy Holidays everyone. Lori W at Art Camp for Women

  • Well, December is half over, but I finally got up the nerve to actually post some of my art journaling. Stepping outside my comfort zone here! I’ve wanted to start art journaling for ages and finally started last month…and I love it! It’s my newest addiction! Thanks Julie, for the encouragement!
