I really struggled in my art journal this year.  Made a lot of really ugly stuff.  But I enjoyed myself and allowed myself the freedom to make lots and lots and lots of ugly pages.  After all, experimentation is the name of the game!  I also gave myself permission to create pages without any journaling.  And as you can see, some of them are among my very favorites!  As always, stamps, stencils, lettering, and people make a number of appearances on my pages.  Also, a surprising amount of orange!  Not a color that I think of myself as drawn to, but perhaps I'm wrong.  Do you notice any trends among these pages that I'm missing?  I'd love to know!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I love them all. Do you have an attribution for that quote “Speak the truth even if your voice shakes.”? I totally have to use it on something. Thanks! Mareena

  • I notice overwhelming detail, every inch is covered with something, dizzying, maybe it needs some empty spaces to rest the eye. On the other hand, I love the craziness, the color, lots of pattern, your stamps, just YOU.

  • You always inspire me Julie. I found you by accident last year when I was googling ideas on making stencils I think or maybe geli printing. That’s when I discovered Scrapbook Soup, and I take part in at least a few of the videos each week. They’re meals for my creative soul, I love to art journal but I’m new to it, however, I learned a lot just seeing your pages and videos and one thing I learned was to not hold back, create freely, be yourself and pretty much anything goes. One thing I see on your pages is that, it’s my guess anyway, that yellow is your favorite color, it’s in every page and normally in a BIG way, like the butterflies and in your faces on these pages. I also saw your love of the ScanNcut machine. I have wanted a die cutting machine for a decade probably but wouldn’t invest in one because you couldn’t scan in your own art work or anything you found and loved; plus the cost of the cartridges or dies was ridiculous. So I watched many videos you made on it last fall and put the ScanNcut2 on my Christmas list. That’s all I wanted actually and thanks to you I absolutely love it, my learning curve was reduced greatly, but it’s only been about a week since I set it up. I have much to learn so keep up the great work on your tutorials, tips, etc. By the way, what you think is ugly, I bet others would disagree; my sister saw some of my ugly pages this Christmas and to my surprise, they inspired her, so don’t be so hard on yourself. Oh, a little over a year ago I decided to paint a wall in my living room orange, never my favorite color either but it made my room very warm and inviting, sometimes colors will surprise you when you least expect it. Ha ha.
Please continue to inspire and give us hope. Many blessings to you. Be happy and Happy New Year.
    Thanks again!
