I've got a quick video tutorial for you today!
A while ago I learned of a technique called "stencil bumping." There was a nice blog post about it, using one of my stencils, on the Crafter's Workshop blog in 2015. In fact, it seemed to be all over the internet at the end of last year. I've been trying to figure out where it came from so that I could properly credit the source and a little internet research showed me that there was a video made in 2012 where the artist credited Lynne Perrella with teaching her the technique. I'm not sure if Lynne is the creator of the technique, but she makes glorious things and her website is worth a visit.
Stencil bumping looks like this:
using the Christmas Lights and Overlapping Stripes stencils
I've experimented with doing multiple layers upon layers:
using the Profile with Dots Balzer Bit
Recently I started playing around with this bumping technique again, but this time using Art Foamies!
In the video I share how to do both the stencil bump and the stamp bump techniques:
Here are the samples from the video:
I used the On The Road stencil and a smaller version of the Big Numbers, the Me-oh-My Pair of Eyes, and the Ring Fling Large Art Foamies foam stamps.
I hope you'll give this technique a try! Thanks for stopping by!

Love this stencil and stamp bumping. Julie you are so great at finding and showing all these awesome ideas. I too liked the neon effect.
I think I will give this a go with my zodiac stamps. I think I like this effect of the stencil bumping for some tee shirts I have been thinking of making. Thanks for this cool idea.

What great photos. I love how these patterns look so classic and classy. More importantly, they will never peel or show their seems like wallpaper would, which is especially important in a bathroom ceiling where moisture can really do some damage. There also won’t be any removal costs when it comes time to change the look. This is a great DIY project.
