Art Journal Every Day

Art Journal Every Day: February into March 2017

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

My art journal pages meander between pages that are packed with little details and pages that have large simple images.  Some of it is my mood.  Some of it is where I did the page (on the road I have more pens and markers and often more time).

This first page is a super detail packed page.

I did part of this page on the road and spent a lot of time with my Moonlight pens coloring in the little details.

Once I got home, I glued in a number of little leftover tags from Carve December.

The tag in the photo above is actually across the crack in the two-page spread.  It is well adhered with a tape runner and opening and closing the journal is no problem.

As I mentioned last week, I really enjoy all of my uneven pages.  They make the journal feel more fun.  Even if you don't bind your own journals, you can always take a pair of scissors and snip out bits and pieces of your pages!

This is the other side of that uneven page.

This page felt like it just *had* to be a face because of the holes that were already in the paper.

I enhanced the eye illusion by tracing out the eye shapes onto the next page and leaving that area mostly blank.

This is the back side of the eyes from the other side:

This is the "illusion" side, which is not see-through but seems like it might be:

I think it's a pretty cool trick!

Sometimes when I don't have a lot of space on a page, I'll add a large block of text.  In this case, the word "time" refers to the fact that the last entry on this page is March 5 and the first entry on the next page is June 17.

Gasp!

Yes, this feature is called Art Journal Every Day, but I'm just like you. I lose my way sometimes too.  And that is 100% fine.  This year has not been an art journaling year.  That's okay.  I don't believe in forcing myself to make art that isn't interesting or fun at the moment.  Do you?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Wow….I found your statement “Practice makes habits” so profound. I am trying to find my way through making a yoga mindfulness practice with a moment of pause, and an art practice a habit. , The habit forming is my challenge. Thank you for sharing your words and journals. I will post this phrase to see daily as I work my way through making the commitment to those things that feed me and nourish my spirit. Thank you! Thank you@!

  • I agree, giving ourselves permission to explore with self acceptance. I love that you are offering the idea for yourself and all of us…to journey through different path to do what is interesting and fun without the critic :+)
Question…how do you add pages to your already bound journal? How do you glue your tags so that they flip? Thanks so much for sharing!!
