Nature Printing with Gifted Leaves

While I was teaching at The Ink Pad, one of my students kindly gifted me with some leaves from her garden.

Leaves-wm
I took them home and had a great time printing until the leaves started to fall apart (and for a little while after they fell apart too)!  You can see a 30-second video of the printing process below:

And here are the prints:

Some of these are ready for a frame (especially that first one) and others will make for lovely backgrounds and collage papers.  This experience did make me long for unique leaves beyond the heavily available oak and maple leaves in my neighborhood.  That's what I've always used before for nature prints and they're nice, but feel so basic to me.  So…if you spy someone sneaking around your garden picking leaves up off the ground, it's probably me!  😉

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I love gelli printing with leaves! But you have to be careful… In my mixed media class, one of our group brought in a batch of leaves to share — when she pulled them out of her carry-all, we all started yelling: POISON IVY!!! THAT’S POISON IVY!!!
    oops!

  • This had me smiling Julie . . . it’s almost like 6 degrees of separation! When I took class with JoAnn here in Florida, she brought these same gorgeous leaves and the squiggly Spanish moss for us to try. They make fantastic prints! I love what you did with them.

  • We have the same range here on the NH seacoast but I just found out where I can get some ginko leaves so I’m off later to nab some of them to press for use. If those interest you, e-mail me off line and I’ll collect a larger batch and send you some! I’ll keep my eye out for anything else that looks interesting. Maybe I should check the many weeds in my garden……
