I'm back with another inspirational art journaling video for you. Yay!
This is a clip from my online class, Art Journaling: 10 Minutes a Day for 30 Days. It's all about shape — one of the design elements we work very hard on in Design Boot Camp. Interesting shapes matter in art because they elevate the visual experience, convey personal meaning, and contribute to the overall impact and value of the artwork. They are one of the essential tools that artists use to express themselves and communicate with their audience.

I often find myself doodling interesting shapes to explore.
In Design Boot Camp, we discuss developing a personal "shape library." My art journal is one of the places that I explore those shapes and learn what works for me and what doesn't. I often find that these explorations lead to stamp designs, stencil designs, and finished artwork! It's quite exciting.
If you're interested in exploring shapes with me, I hope you'll sign up for Art Journaling: 10 Minutes a Day for 30 Days and get started today!

This was SO helpful to me, Julie! Especially your reminder that we, as artists, are trying to put “the way WE see the world” out there. I’d been struggling in a class with exercises and instructions that I just now realize were designed to have us replicate the way that instructor sees the world. Not that it’s a bad thing to stretch myself and try new perspectives and techniques — but it is totally ok to then say “well, that’s just not me!”

Thank you again for such interesting and helpful little videos. I “treat” myself to them at the end of a long workday. I will be purchasing the art journaling new class as soon as I finish a big project here, as my “reward” for the accomplishment. Love to you, Julie!
