I am stripe obsessed at the moment!  I just spent the weekend gelatin printing oodles of striped collage paper.

I counted and there are more than 100 pieces of striped collage paper in that pile!  Each one is unique.  Some are interesting and some are boring, but they're all striped.  Here's a peek at just a few of the papers:

My hands hurt and my back hurts but I'm so happy with my delicious collection of papers!  My friend Sheeri asked me a very good question when I posted this photo of  some of them drying:

(This is a similar drying rack to the one I use, which is so old it's no longer sold.)

She asked: "Do you think the stripes were inspired by all the weaving? Or was the weaving inspired by a love of stripes?"

The answer is: Yes!

I have used stripes as an accent in many of my paintings for years.  Here are just a hand full of examples from recent memory:

But the "Weave Through Winter" experience definitely taught me that stripes don't have to "just" be an accent.  They can be the structure of the artwork!

I don't have a specific project in mind for my new striped collage papers — other than that I want to work on a few stripes-only collages.  Mostly, I'm planning to take them and play and simply see what kind of art emerges.  It may be hideous or it may be brilliant. We'll just have to wait and see!

Who else is onboard with stripes?

Thanks for stopping by!
