Did you know that “Painted Wood Block Wall Art” is a thing? I stumbled across this etsy listing…

…and it sent me down a rabbit hole. Here are a few other listings I found when searching “painted wood block wall art”:

A DIY Opportunity
If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, then here are the supplies you need to make your own:
- Wood Canvases — You can get a pack of eight 10×10 wood canvases for about $25 on Amazon.
- Your favorite paint or collage materials.
- If you’re going to sell them: varnish.
Personally, I have been known to make my art on paper and then transfer it over to the panel. (That way if things don’t go quite right, I haven’t wasted a wood panel.) I wrote a tutorial all about how to do it – including wrapping the edges – back in 2013 and you can find that step-by-step tutorial here.

The Power of Grouping Small Art
I love the look of several small works clustered together. It’s also a great way to have a flexible piece of art that can be changed to fit different wall sizes. And if wooden panels aren’t your thing, you can always use a series of framed works, as in these examples featuring my artwork:

Grouping small work is a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck! If you’re interested in any of the artwork you see in the images above, you can find lots of original artwork in my shop.
Thanks for stopping by!

groupings … good! 🙂
Love this and love your groupings of work. I look forward to watching the tutorial. Thanks so much for everything that you share. YOu have certainly been the pioneer of this now popular journey.
What a great rabbit hole. Those are beautiful, yours too.
Great idea, I like new horizons. Liked your art, liked it all, actually.
This is good reminder on grouping art work. Do you license any of your work?
“If you’re thinking what I’m thinking…” Yes, I am!
I did a similar thing about 15 yrs ago, but directly on my bedroom wall instead of the wood panels.
Very cool!
Yay!
What a cool idea! I cluster small family photos in similar frames to fill a space, but I really like these blocks. Thanks, as always, for opening our eyes to new ideas! Your sets are lovely.
