Here's a super fun holiday craft tradition that you can start any time: memory ornaments.
The front of each ornament features the year and a "title" and the back features a bit more detail about that particular Christmas.
I used vinyl, which I cut with my new **Maui** ScanNCut SDX85M, for the front of each ornament.
…and transfer paper for the text on the back.
This is a simple and elegant way to personalize your Christmas decorations!
The new ScanNCut SDX85M is a great machine. Here are five features I appreciate:
- It has the AutoBlade – a total game changer when it comes to cutting. No guessing at settings! Just press cut and start, and the machine does the rest!
- It has a 600 dpi built-in scanner to make creating custom cut files a breeze!
- It comes wireless ready! Just connect your machine to your home wireless internet and it can “talk” to your computer (Mac and PC) or tablet. How awesome is that?
- It comes loaded with built-in designs that you can use right away and without an internet connection. This machine is so flexible. Use it with internet or without. Use it with a computer or without. Your craft, your choice!
- It has built-in storage so you never lose your tools and blades. Just open the “garage doors” on the front platen of the machine and store all of your goodies. (Or put candy in there. A good choice either way!)
I debated for a long time between the Charcoal and Maui, but in the end, the Maui won out! Which color will you choose?!

After reading this email I ordered the same machine you just got. I have the SDX125 but have been thinking about this one and it sounds like what I want. I hope the mats load easily in this. I love your projects and information you share.

Oh, a NEW machine!! I have the 225; is this just the newer version or a whole different animal? It’s a tough choice, but I’d go with charcoal. oh wait, no…maui…charcoal.. It wouldn’t be the blue, since that’s the color of my current one.

Julie, what a lovely tradition for your family to have. Many years ago I bought my two daughters Avon bubble bath which came in little bottles with keepsake rocking horses as the screw top lid – one horse was metallic green and the other gold. I still have those rocking horses 45 years later and they hang on my Christmas tree each year. One of my daughters has porcelain rocking horses on her tree to carry on the tradition lol.
I have the SDX1200 and it’s a versatile machine so I might just try your Christmas ornaments. I think I would use a little craft varnish over the words just to make sure they last a long time and the vinyl doesn’t peel off.
Have a great Christmas and thanks for such an entertaining blog
