Adventures in Arting Podcast: 3 Customer Questions

Episode101-500
I had so much fun recording today's podcast. Mom and I were actually in the same room and that gave the whole thing a different feel.  I have to say that I feel so energized and excited after our chat and I hope that you do too!

If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link.  On the off chance that you've never listened to a podcast or don't get why anybody would want to, here are some facts: (1) Podcasts are convenient. It's a recording that is available to you whenever and wherever you'd like to listen. You can pause, stop, start, fast forward, and rewind. Stream it through Apple Music or any podcast service. (2) Podcasts are great for listening to while making art. They provide intellectual stimulation and create a bit of company (like hanging out with friends) without the visual distraction of the TV. (3) Podcasts can inspire and educate you. I often find myself jotting down notes when I listen to a podcast. There's so much I want to remember.

If you enjoy the podcast, please give us a shout out on instagram or facebook.  This helps other people find the show.  Thanks so much!

The article our main conversation is based on is called, "Starbucks Just Announced a Drastic Change. What Every Company Can Learn From It."  Even if you don't have a company, as we suggest on the podcast, you can take the advice and apply it to your art making.  Here are the three essential questions:
  1. How have your customers changed in the last 2-5 years?  (For your art, change it to: How has your life changed in the last 2-5 years?)
  2. What are you currently not offering that would be interesting to your customers? (For your art, change it to: What are you currently not doing that would be interesting to you?)
  3. How can you improve your customer's experience? (For your art, change it to: How can you make your art-making experience easier?)
Here are our recommendations this episode:

And here are the two map-making books I just ordered: this one and this one.

I hope you enjoyed this episode.  Thanks for stopping by!

  • Great podcast! Mom was terrific as always. I like the map idea and can hardly wait to see what you do with that. For years I have heard papercrafters discuss how their hobby saved them emotionally. Art truly is therapeutic and God given. And our sons are really like little experiments…. 20 years from now he will be fixing all your website problems. By then, will we still have laptops? or brain chip implants? Well, one thing for sure, we will all have new appliances by then. They won’t last 20 years!

  • AS a costumer what really changed for me is the the possibility to interact and feel part of classroom without being there or online classes on demand, we always had the option for online classes, but to have a zoom class a live class to me is different, even more than a youtube live where you just chat with people.
In real time zoom style classes we see the people we are there together we talk , we make questions we have I believe a better connection.
PS the zoom thing was updated it was aglitch they had with facebook. But zoom also asks to guarantee security that meetings have a password so that’s something to think and be extra secure.

  • Julie, as your mom, I am of the same mind about scissors, reading glasses, sewing kits and art supplies, I maintain a number of “go kits” around my usual parking spots around the house. I find myself developing the need to keep my hands busy while listening, tv, podcasts, music, talk radio, lectures, conferences you name it my hands busy help my mind focus and listen. Otherwise I find my mind wanders off topic to my own interjections. I listen to your podcasts faithfully I like the format and the interactions between you and Eileen. Congratulations on #100 now 101 and your baby boy is adorably cute. Thanks for the photo updates on his growth and comments on his development.

  • I only listened to this episode about a week ago – but I REALLY enjoyed it! It was one of my favorite ones ever.
I am fascinated by your new ‘personal mapping’ obsession, and am VERY hopeful that you share any maps you create. Thank you for the links to the 2 books.
Second: I am a true believer in having a pair of scissors in every room! When I got my first apartment, Ikea had a 3 pack of scissors – and I thought “why would I need 3 scissors?” – well I’m glad I bought it because it changed my life – I always have a pair nearby, and it’s saved my poor teeth from a lot of odd jobs!
I love the idea of Art Museums providing Art Therapy. I had never thought of that before, but when Eileen mentioned it, it made SO much sense! Therapy still seems so mysterious and stigmatized to some, so why not incorporate it with something more mainstream and (hopefully) accessible?
Lastly – noticed the 2 surveys that you put out recently Julie – they feel like a direct result of this convo 🙂 I hope you receive helpful insight! I need to think a little bit about the podcast one before I reply.
    Have a great weekend!
