First, a reminder: I am offering a FREE livestream on YouTube on Saturday (January 25) at 4pm EST. We will cover some of my favorite stencil techniques and all of the new designs!
Until then, I made eight 12×12 gelatin prints, each using one of the new stencil designs:
Most of these prints feel like backgrounds to me — i.e. they need something more to be "finished." How do you know when artwork is done? It’s a feeling. Are you satisfied or does something about it bother you? Do you feel good looking at it or does looking at it make you feel vaguely upset? Everybody’s “done” point is different. Another artist might have stopped before I did or gone on to add more. Knowing when your artwork is done is part of having a confident voice as an artist. There are 2, maybe 3, prints that feel done to me.
How many of these feel done to you?
Hope to see you on Saturday!!

I am so looking forward to seeing ways you can use your stencils. Such a great idea! Thanks so much!

It looks like we cannot purchase any of these unless we’re in retain. B. Voss

Numbers 1,2,5 and 7 are really speaking my name. I’ll have to pick them up. I’ll have to say that after buying lots of stencils (Balzer designs included) I find that I’m not really a fan of the 12 x 12 size. Apart from when I use them on larger scale items (furniture etc.) they get very little use. Storage is also pricey as I had to buy 12 x 12 binders and 12 x 12 plastic insert sheets to store them flat. Apparently lots of people feel the same way because I cannot even give them away. I like the 6 x 6 size and any stencils I can find in the 9 x 6 or smaller range. I wish TCW would consider alternate sizes.
