I Want to Try This: Mat Board Collograph

I was poking around the internet looking for information on creating fine art collograph prints without a press.  During that research, I stumbled across a video that has me **obsessed** and looking around my studio for stray pieces of mat board.  Watch the video and see if you're not keen to give this technique a try:

Isn't that so cool?!  It combines so many things I like: monoprinting, carving/hand cutting, and drawing.

Definitely on my to do list!  Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have taught this techigue by adding layers and textures and then printing. However we had an etching press so we could do that. But this is great for introto collagraph without using a press. I am so excited! I couldn’t find the supply list though! I can’t wait to try this for myself.

  • did you know that you can use a pasta machine as a press if you cut your board small enough, and that using paper that has been soaked in water will make it flexible enough to get into the grooves. Also, instead of gouging out lines, you can add paper or collage so that the ink sits in the edges.
