Lately I've been low-key obsessed with improv quilting. In the simplest of explanations, improv quilting is piecing together a quilt top without a pattern. After that, it gets more complicated with lots of conflicting opinions.
Some people say it's quilting without a plan.
Other people are okay with a plan, but insist on no ruler.
Other people say, use a ruler, but you have to choose your fabric 100% randomly.
Like any art form, there are rules and rule breakers. But I don't think the quilt police are coming for any of us. To me, improv quilting is like painting with fabric.
Today, I thought I'd share some images I've been collecting on Pinterest. I can't guarantee that they are all improv quilts, but they look improv-inspired to my eye and in turn, they inspire me towards improvisational work. I hope you'll find them inspiring too!
I love the non-perfection in these quilts. I love the freedom and the sense of organized chaos. I love the non-straight lines. There's just so much to love about these amazing quilts!
Thanks for stopping by!

Those are so beautiful! I bought a quilting book years ago because the quilt colors and design on the cover and inside inspired me. This is long before Pinterest. And it reminds me of the first image you posted. Unable to click source on my phone while out of town. Thanks for sharing.
