Last month I spent three days at Brother Headquarters in New Jersey, exploring three new-to-me machines:

The DZ-3000 Sewing & Quilting Machine:

DZ3000
It's being sold with a circular sewing attachment, which makes these cool concentric circles easy:

And it has a couching foot that allows you to add yarn and other decorative elements:

Even stitching decoratively on top of ribbon:

The Strong & Tough Serger:

Serger
I don't sew clothing.  It's a goal, but I'm not there yet.  However, I discovered that you can make lots of other things with a serger!  We made roses:

Rolledrose-wm
And this tote bag came together in less than 5 minutes:

And I did make myself this very fetching headband from a leftover scrap of a t-shirt:

Like I said, I'm working my way towards wearables…. 😉

Last but not least, the LB-7000 Sewing & Embroidery Machine:

LB7000I love this machine.  The embroidery is easy to do.

Plus, check out the cool embroidery lace you can make!

You say Christmas Tree ornaments, I say earrings.  Let's agree to disagree!  ;)

As a side note, I took the LB 7000 machine with me to my Boston Modern Quilt Guild retreat this weekend and stitched an entire quilt from start to finish on it — without ever using the foot pedal.  It was great.  I have to get a good photo of the finished quilt and then I'll share, but you can see a sneak peek of it in pieces on my instagram here.

Tune into HSN tomorrow (Wednesday, March 21) online or on your TV.

  • During the 7am hour, I'll be demonstrating the DZ3000 (with the circular attachment) and the ScanNCut.
  • During the 12pm hour, I'll be demonstrating the Strong & Tough Serger, the LB 7000 sewing & embroidery, and the ScanNCut — If you've ever wanted to spend an hour with me, this is your chance!
  • During the 3pm hour, I'll be demonstrating the LB 7000 sewing and embroidery again!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. The winner of the ScanNCut Rolling Tote bag is:

ToteWinner
Congratulations, Sharon!  Send me an e-mail with your full name and mailing address and I'll get that tote sent to you!

  • I think that is great and Brother has come a long way with their sewing machines.
I am glad to hear you will be doing the Brother Sewing machines and the scan n cut on HSN tomorrow. I got my email of when to watch awesome.
Wow I think all you learned at Brother NJ is fabulous and so happy for you to be brought on board with the sewing machines.
I am making a quilt my self. I am using the designs from the brother scan n cut. I am sewing my quilt out on one of my five singer sewing machines. two out of the five that I have is a singer serger and a singer embroidery machine.
With that said I am thinking of trading in three of my singer sewing machines and my cm550/cm550dx scan and cut for a Brother embroidery machine. I might call a Brother dealer and inquire here in my state.
I just started blogging at fawnazza.blogspot.com
I am mostly chatting about my favorite crafting tool my Brother Scan n Cut. Give it a check if you would like.
Will be watching tomorrow. It is suppose to snow again. Have a great time in Florida and I know you will be fabulous on the show.

  • Good morning Julie,
Love the quilt blocks! That was a tough block to assemble and you did them very well. Looking at your assembly photos, the last photo, try turning the upper left block 180*. I think that may be a more balanced set.
Thanks for all the great blogs and videos. I look forward to reading them every morning,
    JC

  • Hi Julie. When will you be on HSN again? They sold out of the sewing machine LB-7000 and I’m hoping that they have it back the next time you’re on. Thanks!

  • Hi Julie I was wondering if there were any options for more sewing feet for the lb7000. I bought it a while a go from hsn. I would like a walking foot, 1/4 inch seam, etc.. but I can’t seem to find anything on these. Says no accessories available. I’m not sure but I think it’s a low shank machine. Are there other options?
    Thanks
