I'm delighted to share more of my #CarveDecember stamps with you.  I did a lot of color prints during this period.

18-wm

Color is amazing.  Same stamps used for both tags, but they feel so different.  I like the color one a lot more!

If you're interested in the multi-color printing of this stamp, watch the video here.  I used the same process for these cactus prints:

I know I usually print on tags, but I just want to remind you that you can print on all kinds of substrates: book pages, tote bags, t-shirts, and more!

Which print do you prefer?  Straight on or at an angle?

One of the things I talked about a lot on my instagram posts was the importance of printing.  After all, professional stamp carvers are called printmakers.  The print is the thing.  To emphasize this point, I carved a stamp and then posted 24 printing variations with that one stamp:

Carving is just the beginning of the creative process.  Printing offers so many opportunities to show off your artistic chops!

Speaking of printing, I made Christmas cards using a stamp I had previously carved and a custom colored ink pad:

I used the same ink pad to stamp the backs of the cards:

(Again, the stamps are ones I had previously carved.)  And then that ink pad still had juice, so I printed some of the stamps I had already carved this year:

One of the many reasons I love stamp carving is that you can re-use the stamps over and over again.  Carving them is just the beginning of the art making.  I have a massive collection of hand carved stamps and I use them all the time in my art.

I'm looking forward to showing you the rest of my stamps in the coming days!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I knew when I bought your stamp book last March that I would do ‘carve December’ and am glad I did! I love the color you’ve added to these stamps, and the ‘hand made’ stamp (which I think I will do next!). While carving last month I wondered if you know of a carving tool that does the revers – instead of doing a ‘thin trowel’ line, it would LEAVE a thin line and let you carve a very fine, delicate line/outline? If not, I may see if my welder son could figure out a way to put two No. 1 Speedballs together to that end!
    Happy New Year!

  • Beautiful! I just bought your book and am already looking forward to the next “carve December.” And of course all of the time between now and then to learn how to carve stamps. Thanks for the inspiration to learn something new in 2018!
