I stumbled into a small but charming exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts here in Boston (MFA). It's located in the basement of the museum — on the wall across from the doors to the cafeteria. Since 1999 the MFA has had a partnership with the Foundation for the Arts in Nagoya, Japan. For fourteen years, young students in both Boston and Nagoya have been working on a variety of art projects based on shared themes. This year, the focus was on designing original textile art work, using printmaking and embroidery.
I have fallen in love with this work.
- I love the charming prints!
- I love all the color!
- I love the embroidery — some haphazard and some very purposeful!
- I love the idea of displaying the finished work in the hoop!
- I love the freedom in this work!
- I love the imagination on display!
- I love the unique qualities of each hoop despite the fact that the students were working with all the same materials!
When I stitch, I usually do it on plain white fabric. I am *definitely* going to incorporate some stamped fabric into my embroidery work. It's too fun an idea not to! (Perhaps #CarveDecember and then #StitchJanuary?)
Hope you're feeling inspired too!
I would most definitely LOVE a #StitchJanuary challenge!!:) Sounds like a wonderful idea to me, Julie!! Those embroidery hoops are too cool! Thank you for sharing your latest adventure and findings. You have totally inspired me, yet again. Off to my studio I go:)

Love how charming these are! #stitchJanuary sounds like a great idea. I have forever been in love with embroidery & stitching into artwork, but never stop to learn and incorporate it in my work.
