If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
Today I'm sharing some pages from the beginning of February. Each of these pages is multi-colored (even the one with the black background), filled with journaling, and features a large focal image. Let me know if you see any other similarities! Sometimes other people see our work more clearly than we do.
The graphic text on this page was stamped with my Shadowed Alphabet Art Foamies and then painted in.
As you know, I love to make a home for creative leftovers in my art journal.
This is a flower that I had stamped onto a transparency and then painted behind. It was a creative experiment and when I was done, I threw it in my "art parts" bin. I was delighted to integrate it into this page.
As I've mentioned before, my pages evolve over time. The girl's face was a stenciled tag that was bound into the book. At a later date, I painted black all around the page. At some point, I added the long hair and the leaves. And still later yet, I added the large text over the figure. The small tag(s) were a later addition after that, along with the patterning in her body.
My art journal truly has made me a braver artist. I no longer fear covering things up. I let things marinate over time.
My favorite part of this little cluster of marks is the series of small yellow circles. It's a print from a thermofax screen I made. I love the delicacy you can achieve with a thermofax print.
My go-to white pen is the White Sharpie. For Gold, I use the Sakura Pen Touch.
I think that you can see how the patterning in her face and hair, and especially her neck area, relate back to the area of patterning on the black page.
I get an idea in my head and it's something that I just *have* to explore from lots of different angles! Do you do the same thing?
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Julie! At one point I thought that I knew this but is a thermofax the same as a silkscreen? Just curious what the difference is if they are different. I know that you have made thermafax for a long time.
