You guys, I love this painted globe that I made with the help of my ScanNCut:

It was super fun and easy!  I found an old globe at a thrift store:

I cleaned it up and then I used my ScanNCut to cut vinyl words for all of the continents and oceans:

And then I applied them to my globe using a gridded transfer sheet:

For tips on cutting and placing vinyl, watch this video:

Once I had all my text in place, I painted over the continents with black acrylic paint…

…and the oceans with several shades of blue paint.  Once the paint was dry, I peeled off the vinyl lettering with a sharp pair of tweezers:

Note that I used two different types of vinyl for this project.  I used the Brother craft vinyl for the masking of the continents and oceans (it's removable) and a more permanent vinyl for the final lettering shown below.

To finish my globe, I added my favorite travel quotes in gold vinyl:

I love how it turned out!

This was a super fun project to do and now I can't wait to get my hands on another globe to try out more painty ideas!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • This is such a great idea, Julie! It turned out fantastic. I’m going to be on the lookout for one of those globes. Sometimes they are hard to come by!

  • Hi Julie,
Saw this yesterday and loved it. Great way to repurpose a find.
I have also be working with the Brother Scan n Cut black Vinyl. I have two glass plates with gold rims.
I made a father’s day gift for my husband. I found a really nice silhouette of Ducks flying over grass and cattails. I worked it out in canvas and then cut it out and placed it in the center of the plate. I also cut out the letters forming the words Happy Father’s Day and placed that around the rim of the plate. Came out pretty good if I say so myself.
I also made him a father’s day card with an aperture of a duck and used the ducks of the silhouette to add to the card that came out pretty good too.
I just do not know how you do all that you do but you do it all so awesome. Thanks for sharing.
