Art Journal Every Day: Another One Bites the Dust

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

I have finished filling another art journal!  Hooray!  Today I'm sharing the last few pages in this particular art journal.

You know, most times the same thing happens to me every single time that I get about 75% of the way through an art journal — I can see the end and I just want to push through and get it done.  Therefore the last few pages are usually very blank.  However, I took this journal with me while I was on the road and I needed to make the last few pages last, so they're more intense than normal.

Especially, this first page packed with doodling:

You can see that the page base is actually quite cut up.

A white pen is one of the art tools I always have packed in my travel bag!  You can do a lot with one!

Any guesses what inspired the design of this next page?

This multi-layered dress was built on a junque page that had a color mixing sample painted on it.  If you look closely you can see that it's many variations on red.

The other side of the page features song lyrics, which I know from the comments on last week's post is something that many of you use in your art journals too!

You can see my white pen was put to more good news here.  I penned this quote on the day I went to my Grandmother's Memorial Service.

The final page in this journal features a paper placemat I liberated from a restaurant.

I thought it was kitschy and cool, so I removed it from my spot at the table before I got any food on it!  I think it makes for perfect "end papers" for my journal!

  • Good Morning Julie,
Very nice indeed. I love the stain glass effect and the dress of many red colors. The whole journal is gorgeous. As you say another one done. Very nice indeed. I think I will have to add a white pen to my colored pen stash.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and Friday,
    Fawna

  • Love the quotes, the colors, the neon stained glass affect! I also love, love, love the ruffled dress of the woman. I see a bit of brush strokes influenced by the Winslow Homer photos you shared. Very cool. Have a lovely weekend.

  • I love looking at your work Julie! I do have a question for you-what do you put on the very first page of your art journal? Do you just go right into journaling? Or do you put some kind of title page at the start of a journal? Thanks!
