Valentine’s Day Table for Two: Placemats

It's shockingly easy to make your own reusable placemats.  The secret is lamination.  But, more on that later.

I used my ScanNCut to create a heart stamp and then I used a plastic fork to make it even better!  Watch the video for the how to:

As I mentioned in the video, I used iron-on vinyl to laminate my placemats, but you could also take your painted paper to Staples or somewhere like that and they'll laminate it for you!

I hope you've been enjoying this series of Valentine's Day tutorials!  Tomorrow is the big day and I've got just one last table detail how-to to share!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut.  It is a machine that I love and use.  All projects and opinions are my own.

  • Fabuloso!! I love this idea so much especially to do with my grandchildren preserving their little hand prints on paper preserved with iron on vinyl. Thanks so much Julie for sharing. Your videos are a great way for me to start my day!! HAPPY VALENTINE’s Day. One of my favorite quotes. ” Love is the force that transforms and improves the soul of the world.” Paulo Coelho.

This absolutely phenomenal. What I like about the stamp kit is the stamps print out cleaner then ones made with foam. I backed my foams stamps and sometimes I get the shape of the backing. I have only used cheap craft foam.
I too have cut threw my mat this past week. I was using the deep cut blade too. I was cutting out a bear from the banner of bears found in my scan n cut and Scan n cut canvas. How I got my bear separated from the group of bears is I used the subtract button in the editing section. Turned out pretty good.
You know if you want to see this you can go to HSN.com and then go to community top right you do not even have to sign in and take a look. I generally post up my pictures for the community there.
I am known as Cupatea. One of the community members bought the cm350 and she said it was because of what I have shown on the community site. Last year I posted up a bunch of pics using my scan n cut. This year I have too posts that I showed pictures in using my scanncut.
With that all said, I am still a beginner at this but I do try.
I also used the High tack fabric support sheet to do that. The cut that I made in my mat was just on the rounded part of the foot of the bear. I turned it over and taped it down. Remove my high tack mat and now I am good to go again. I just used masking tape.
I find I have to really watch my setting with the deep cut blade and the pressure settings.
I love what you did here. It is truly awesome now placemats can get expensive to purchase especially if you need more then two. Wow for a crafter that is really a money saver. I am sure the laminate is not that expensive because I think you can buy that buy the yard or half yard and it should be pretty wide I would think.
Any as always Julie you are really tops with your creativity.
Happy Monday and happy no snow storm day.

  • Thanks for sharing this! I needed some ideas on how to finish some Valentine postcards I painted, and besides some splatters I was kinda stumped. Your Valentine table is so festive. I hope you’re expecting a special guest! Thanks for the inspiration.

  • Love the placemats, especially making it 2 sided! So I’m working this evening (on valentine’s day) and when I get home after 9pm I still need to work on my art journal. I may just include some gold hearts, since I like yours so much.
