Today I'm sharing a trio of ScanNCut videos. I hope you find them useful. As always, I create tutorials based on the questions you ask, so let me know what you're curious about when it comes to your ScanNCut! And now, tutorials:
First up, whether you received a ScanNCut for Hanukkah or Christmas or you've been keeping yours in the box since you got in months ago (or you ordered one from HSN on Tuesday), it's time to take it out of the box! I'm sure you're super excited to get started. In this video I'll take you step-by-step through the process of unpacking your ScanNCut and review what comes in the box. You'll be ready to get started with your ScanNCut in no time at all!
The model I'm unpacking in the video is the 650W or dealer model. If you have any other model the process of unpacking will be pretty much the same, but the accessories may differ.
Have fun with your new ScanNCut and be sure to post what you make online using the hashtag #scanncut!
Valentine's Day will be here before you know it. I've got a little gift idea that is fun to make whether you're a kid or a grownup (or a kid masquerading as a grownup). Follow along with the video and let your creativity "shine" (get it?) in this easy glitter magnet tutorial. I'm even going to show you how to wrangle your glitter so that the magnet doesn't glitter bomb the recipient!
You could personalize the magnet with a name or an image. You could use a shape other than a heart — maybe personalize with sorority letters or a business name? Lots of fun possibilities!
Also, it really matters what you use to seal the glitter. For this sample I used two coats (second coat after the first one dried) of Glossy Accents:
And for this one I used Tar Gel:
The glitter is definitely sealed in either way, but you see the texture of the glitter much more when using Tar Gel. You get more of a domed coat when using the Glossy Accents.
Finally, it's easy and simple to turn any pattern into a quilting template or stencil using your ScanNCut!
In the video I show you how to trace, scan, resize, and cut your brand new fabulous quilting stencil!
It's as easy as print, trace, cut!
Hope you find those videos helpful! Thanks for stopping by!

I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut. It is a machine that I love and use. All opinions and projects are my own!
P.S. If, during this Blogiversary celebration, you want more fresh content, check out this week's vlog for the latest goings on in Julie's world!
Hi Julie,
Fair warning this is a long comment.
These videos are just fantastic. I saw the unpacking video the first time you presented it and it is a wonderful video for those that are new to scan n cut. I too have read and seen others that have the machine but never unboxed it and let it set there in a corner for a long period of time.
I watched the 11pm-12pm HSN show as I did the 8-9am show. I think they saved the very best that they had for last. You and the Brother scan n cut. I think you did more then just scan the surface of this machine. You did two truly awesome presentations. I am actually hoping that Suzanne Runyan bought one as she seemed to be a best intrigued by it.
Congrats on the show.
What I have been doing with my scan n cut is I have been working with the boarders found in my machine and on scan n cut canvas. I used the ghost boarder the trick or treat boarder and the Teddy bear boarder.
I went into the edited tab and use the subtract as you taught me until I got one of each isolated and separated from the group of designs. At present I am working with the Teddy bear as I want to sew one up and stuff it and make it into a stuffed toy.
How I did this was I transferred my bear from my scan n cut canvas to my scan n cut via usb as I have the cm 550dx. Then I enlarged it to 8 inch x 8 inches. I then took my trusty universal pen holder and my black sharpie and had it draw it out on to printer paper for now.
Once I did that I then scanned it in with my photo mat, but any of my 12×12 mats will scan it in. Once that was done I went into the machine to the editing section and added the 1/4 inch sew line around the bear.
I am now ready to cut it out but I am just getting ready to decide what fabric I am going to use, cotton or felt.
Once I have it cut I will then decide to use a satin stitch for the eyes and the mouth and a chain stitch for the lines around the nose to the mouth, and sew it on with my sewing machine.
I could use felt for the eyes etc or just use a fabric marker and have my scan n cut draw and color in the eyes mouth and little lines not sure yet. As we see the procedures for finishing this bear are endless.
I am also in the process of making a stiletto shoe birthday card. Via wingdings and scanncut canvas. I have been having a blast with the new font convertor and going on the net and finding lots of fonts and wingdings.
I even have my Harry Potter font going and have made several things in canvas with that. I also made an hour glass using the shapes found in the basic designs on the scan n cut canvas. I used stars for the sand. Looks good but will see how it cuts out.
Julie last but never ever least your videos here are Banging. I have been wanting to use magnetic sheets for a long time. I imagined in my head to turn the sheet over and cut with the back side up and now you proved it. Loved your stencil procedure you make it so easy for us to do these things.
I too have made stamps with my scan n cut.
I used the craft foam and cut out the 12 zodiac signs design and used a basic shape rounded edge square found in the scanncut for the backing of the stamps. That was one of my first real projects using my scanncut.
I have a question? I want to buy the scanncut cm650w. I also still want to keep my cm550dx. Here is my question.
Registration and scanncut canvas. How many accounts can one have with canvas? Can I keep both machines under the same account?
I hope all that purchased on HSN truly enjoy their new Brother Scanncut 350 with awesome bundle package as much as I enjoy mine. I will have mine two years now as of March 2015. Again Thanks to you and your presentation on HSN at that time.
Happy Thursday,

Thank you for this. Saw the presentation on HSN the other night. My new machine is sitting here in the box, and has been for a month or so. I have plans for what I want to use it for, and I cannot wait now to set it up. I just love all the tips you provide.

I always appreciate and learn from your ScanNCut videos. One thing I haven’t been able to find anywhere is a really good explanation of the difference between blade depth and pressure, how they interact, and most importantly, WHY and WHEN one should alter the pressure. Your videos are always so clear and comprehensive; could you tackle this question?
Also, have you found your blade getting dull after working with glitter paper? I did some wonderful cuts using glitter paper over the holidays and afterward, every other cut I did dragged and ripped the cardstock I was using. [Note: the blade was less than a month old and had MAYBE 5 cuts on it prior to working with the glitter paper.] I’d love a trouble shooting video about dragging and tearing and when to replace blades!
Thanks for all you do!

I just bought the Scan n Cut and it’s on it’s on the way from HSN. I am so excited. I told you when I was at Whim so Doodle that I planned to buy it. I tried to talk to you when I bought it but they said it was too busy. I will be watching all of your videos. I can’t wait to get rid of all my punches and die cuts. They take up so much room. Maybe I will get the abyss tamed this year. Hope to see you again soon.

I just bought the Scan n Cut and it’s on it’s on the way from HSN. I am so excited. I told you when I was at Whim so Doodle that I planned to buy it. Julie, I have been watching your video’s so great. I do need help I watched you with the free Monthly download from Brother and when I download I am on Windows 10 and it tells me that Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open Spiro 2 (3).fcm because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example it was sent as an e-mail attachment and wasn’t correctly decoded. I’m not great on computers but have no idea how to download the way you did and get to my Scan N Cut. I have had it since Aug. not able to use it since I tore my Achilles Tendon and had to stay off my feet for 3 mos. and then PT and just today got the ortho’s for my shoes. I hope you can help me. I watch your video’s an cant wait to use this machine which I wanted to cut fabric when I have a lot of small pieces to cut. The monthly pattern I just heard about when you said you heard people talking about it. I thank you for all your help and hope you can find a way to help me learn how to download and work with canvas. Sue
