I recently had the pleasure of going on a New England Art Tour with the MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) Museum Council. We all boarded a mini bus one Saturday morning and traveled across Massachusetts to do some art peeping.
Our first stop was an exhibit at the Montserrat College of Art called Re//Woven. From the Montserrat website:
Each of the artists on view incorporates the aesthetics and gestures of traditional weaving and pattern-making through the use of untraditional mediums such as dirt, cinder blocks, and paper pulp. RE//Woven is a clever re-imagination of weaving through a network of objects that intertwines the relationship between contemporary aesthetics and ancient gesture.
Take a peek:
The book pages above were not part of that exhibit. They were displayed in the stairwell. It's amazing how arresting plain old scientific facts can become isn't it?
We were in the stairwell because we were walking up to the Montserrat student and alumni art sale!
Our next stop was at the Peabody Essex Museum to see their exhibit Shoes: Pleasure & Pain. I enjoyed having the curator there to share her insights, but as far as art exhibits go, it felt a little lacking in content to me. Nonetheless, lots of pretty stuff to see!
Our final stop was at Phillips Academy and the Addison Gallery of American Art. I love folk art and they had a lovely collection on display.
I'm actually a member at the Peabody Essex Museum, but I don't go often enough. I had never been to Montserrat or the Addison Gallery. It was a truly lovely day spent in the company of other art lovers.
I hope you enjoy these museum visits as much as I do. I look forward to more art adventures!
Thanks for stopping by!

Wow Julie…Amazingly inspirational tour! I live in Massachusetts and haven’t been to these places in a while. After viewing your photos I MUST go see these works in person. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

Your museum tours are always so interesting and informative, taking many of us to places we may never be able to go…or inspiring us to take a neighborhood trip to our local museum.
I love your take on what you see as it many times opens my eyes to see more..explore parts of the whole.
Thanks Julie for inspiring us daily!

Love being a part of your art museum tours, in places I will probably not ever get to visit.
The weaving, so intricate and visually interesting!
Shoe confession- I had 2 pairs of shoes exactly alike, one black and one navy blue. Back in the days before GPS and On-Star, I had to drive across the city to a daytime, outdoor memorial service at an unfamiliar location. At the time I was a Hospice Nurse Manager and agreed to read names for the service. Thinking of the 35-40 mile drive, and dressing in haste, of course I wore one black and one blue shoe! I so felt my fashion faux-pas was front and center as I was reading at the open podium. Of course it did not matter at all. But it was certainly a great ice breaker with the families I did not know, and a good laugh for many years amongst my co-workers. Today, Be Bold and wear one of each!

Provided the type of shoes are compatible, I sense a new fashion trend of wearing two different shoes. It would have been interesting to see the shoes worn on the exhibition’s opening night. I enjoy all your postings Julie.

I came back to this post after reading your museum post for March 7,2017. The way you include the fascinating history tidbits makes me feel like I was an invisible visitor with you as my guide. Thank you for sharing. When are you having a one woman show? I would fly from East Texas to see it.
