If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
Today I've got more of my daily pages for you. Some of these pages may look familiar to you. I worked on the base layer in this video I shared several months ago. As I've mentioned before, my art journal process has greatly evolved over time. These days I really prefer to work on pages in stages over a period of time rather than from start-to-finish in a single seating. I find that my pages are richer and more interesting when I take the time to think.
But, you don't have to trust me on that. Take a look for yourself:
The butterflies were from painted deli paper — which might be my favorite thing in the whole world (except maybe for chocolate chip cookies). I can't make art without painted deli paper anymore.
Not every page has to have a focal point. I like my journal to be a place where I feel free to explore and fail and unconstrained by any notions of creating "pretty things."
I use a pretty limited palette of favorite pens in my art journal: for writing, for drawing & coloring, for shine & flash, for fine line coloring, white pen wonder. A lot of times what you might think is paint is actually a marker. For instance, the yellow above was done with a marker.
Lots and lots of stamping on these pages. I go through cycles with techniques and supplies. Right now I'm in a stamp happy phase.
What technique or supply is your current obsession?
Thanks for stopping by!

I am so drawn to your art for many reasons. Your sense of color is awe inspiring and your faces beyond interesting. Everything is full of texture and full of life. Someday, I hope you’ll come to the Seattle area so I can take one of your classes. Thanks, Julie, for brightening the world with your gorgeous creations Oh, and helping me get the most out of my ScanNCut, too!!!
