If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
I have once again come to the end of an art journal. Usually I'm racing through the final few pages of an art journal, anxious to get to the next one. However, I was slow to finish this particular journal. Perhaps it was because I was traveling at the time? Perhaps I was sad to let go of such a pretty art journal? Perhaps I simply wasn't in a journaling mood?
I remain obsessed with interactive pages, which you'll see in the final two pages of this journal.
The left side of this spread has a flap that opens up.
This is a great way to fit more journaling on a page and/or hide some more private thoughts you may have.
These openings — above and below — were cut with a craft knife.
This face is one that I "fixed" about twelve times. That's what gives it that super layered look. Another reason that working on my art journal over a long period of time makes me happy and gives me such exciting results!
This next spread also has a flap that opens. Do you see it?
It's the face on the right.
See the kangaroo?
It's a candy wrapper!
I glued it into my journal so that the heart in the flap would fit over it perfectly!
This face started as a Balzer Designs stencil. Just a quick and easy way to start a face!
The eyes in this doodle are hand carved stamps. There are a lot of hand carved stamps all over this spread. You can see some below, embellished with a white pen.
And here is the other side of those cut outs:
I hope you enjoyed this peek into my journal. And before you ask, I have one single shelf full of completed journals at this time. I probably go through 2 or maybe 3 complete journals in a year? How about you? How many completed journals do you have?
Thanks for stopping by!

very inspiring! I’m going to have to try some cut outs in my journals…….Monday I will start teaching an art journal section of our shop’s Kids Camp…one hour a day for 4 days. The kids are 8-14 yrs old…I’ve handmade the journals and painted the background of each page, it will be up to them to fill with content. I’m excited about this and can’t wait to see the results….the 2nd week of Camp I’ll be teaching ATC’s and am hoping that all the kids will enjoy expanding into a new mode of self expression. I love to watch minds grow….

You have done so much work on this journal. I am amazed. Thank you for sharing it. It also gives such inspirational ideas for my future work. I know how to stencil, I know how to cut out stencils, but I never thought about making my own stencils for my journal. I love how you use your stamps also as patterns.
Thank you!

I have so many journals that are never finished by continue over the years to be works in progress 😉
I am blown away by your many creative talents! I just love how you incorporate the visual imagery you share from your museum visits into a synthesized and interesting forms. WOW!! I love it all. I especially love how you ad the interestingly shaped fold outs to pages. I used to love reading books like that to my children. How did you attach? Thanks for sharing.

I have five completed journals (larger size ones). I make small journals to take on trips so as not to lug the heavy ones. Of the five completed journals two of them are junque journals that I made by using your Junque Journal class – I love them.

What kind of black pen do you use for the actual journaling that shows up so well against your background and appears to write well on the different textures?

OK, I admit, I have several started themed art journals, but none completed yet. I do love to write and take notes, so I have a technique journal as well. This year for my October birthday, I am going to start a Birthday-to-Birthday journal, as I am approaching a Decade of Promise landmark in my life. I plan to be diligent and complete it, part of a few promises to myself that I plan to keep!

A bit too much “eye candy” for me! Too much confusion, chaos! But then again, that’s me! My sister, on the other hand, loves what she sees and can handle even more. She says that it “floods her senses with joy and excitement”! That’s what SO wonderful about art! That each individual person is “touched”/affected in his/her own personal way. Our reactions depend on what we each bring to the table. That’s why I love art so much!
