NOTE: This post contains strong language as well as violent and sexually explicit images.

As promised, here is my follow-up post to the post about the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.  The third floor of the museum is currently showing a wonderful Grayson Perry exhibit.  Unfortunately his fabulous vases did not photograph well behind plexiglass and with all the glare from the lights.  But, trust me, they are quirky and beautiful and disturbing and interesting and funny and weird and enormous.

You can watch a short video about the exhibit below:

And here are my photos….

If you're eagle-eyed,  you'll notice the sketchbook page that later became an enormous tapestry.  I thought the differences between the sketchbook page and the finished tapestry were interesting.  (They weren't displayed by each other, which I also thought was an interesting curatorial choice.)

I found Grayson Perry's work grotesque and beautiful and offensive and thoughtful and just really fantastically interesting.  If you get a chance to see his work in person, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Too much to take in! Content, color, media, patterning. How lucky you were to experience the scale of the pieces.
What I can take in is how incredibly generous you are, Julie, to photograph, edit, and upload this number of photos. Not just this exhibit, but so many places you find art. I love every one and receive it as a gift. You enrich my life. Thank you.

  • Grayson Perry’s work reminds me of Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, at the Prado Museum. You can look at each piece for an hour, taking it all in. I never heard of Perry before, but he is fabulous!

  • Wow!! I haven’t seen such current, thought-provoking and message-heavy work in quite some time! Thank you for sharing Grayson Perry with us. Great exhibit! If I ever have a home with an art niche, it’s gotta be one of his urns that goes there.
