In honor of the fact that I'm on HSN today (in the 12pm EST and 4pm EST airings – with a possible additional airing at 11pm EST) showing off the ScanNCut, I've got a collection of ScanNCut techniques for you. I hope they'll be useful to you. You can view them anytime on my YouTube channel.
The wireless transfer function is one of the super duper coolest and most useful features of the new ScanNCut 2. (Learn how to activate your wireless ready ScanNCut 2 in this video and here’s a video all about how the wireless transfer works.) In the video I made, I show you how to change both the wifi network the machine is on, as well as the user account used for the wireless transfer process.
Next up is a fabulous function that I'm super duper excited about! It's called "ungrouping." It's a little thing, but it makes a big difference when it comes to customizing your projects and getting them to look just the way you want them to! Watch the video to see what I'm so excited about:
And here is a photo of the felt ornaments before and after ungrouping:
Finally, I thought I'd address one of the most common questions I get: what's the difference between the scans on "scan to cut data?" Watch the video to see the different types of cutting files each scan creates:
And here are the leaves from the video:
Check out how skinny that little leaf tail is:
I hope these videos were useful to you! Please leave your ScanNCut questions in the comments section so I know the types of things you'd like to see explained in a video demonstration!
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. While I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut, it is a product that I love and use!

Thanks so much for all of your informative videos. If it weren’t for your tutorials, figuring out the functionality–and creative applications–of this machine would be overwhelming. Question: any idea if Brother plans to update Scan N Cut Canvas with additional fonts and shapes? And more project templates/ideas with a contemporary edge?

Thanks so much for the scan video!! Very helpful. I was wondering if you could do an in-depth tut on converting different types of files to the .fcm format. The silhouette shop has some great designs, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get them to play nice with my scan n cut. It seems like most designers gear their files for that machine and forget about us scan n cut folks!! Thanks again!

Your videos are so helpful. Many thanks.!
I have a question. I got Scan N Cut 2 and plan to give my old Scan N Cut to a friend. Is there a way I can delete the scans I have saved on the machine before I pass the machine on?
Sandy

Thanks, Julie! I still have to activate my Scan N Cut 2–waiting for a class that hasn’t materialized yet at my dealer’s. Now, thanks to you and your super clear instructions, I don’t need to wait any longer!

The video of the differences between the scan modes is exactly what I needed! I’d also like to see how you could scan a piece of scrapbook paper with several designs on it and get the designs to cut out. For example, a 12×12 piece of patterened paper that has a lot of Christmas tags on it: could you scan that piece and cut out each tag from the sheet?

Mine is more of a technical question I think. I was trying to cut out a stock pattern the other day and the corners of the design just wad up and get mangled. I have had this happen before with detail work. I haven’t used my machine much, so I have a hard time believing the blade is dull already. Any suggestions?

I’ve really used your Scan N Cut tutorials a lot and I would have been lost if it hadn’t have been for you and your great teaching. I really appreciate everything I’ve learned from you. I also truly enjoy watching you on HSN and, of course, Scrapbook Soup. You have great presence, Julie, and it’s a pleasure learning from you. Thanks for everything. I loved my first ScanNCut and I REALLY love my ScanNCut2!
