For this year's batch of Christmas cards I made pop-up cards!  I saw this super simple card by Johwey Redington

…and it inspired me to make some of my own!  If you follow the tutorial on Johwey's page, you can make this fabulous card with just a craft knife and some cardstock.  But, well, um, I had to get fancy.  And so I created a slightly more intricate design and took advantage of my ScanNCut to make the cutting part easy.  Take a peek at what I made:

I used the design I created for the inside of the card to decorate the outside of the card as well.

All four of the cards are essentially the same.  I simply used different patterned papers inside the cards.

This was a very easy pop-up to make.  While Christmas is over, you could use the same concept to create a heart card for Valentine's Day, an Easter Egg (or Easter Bunny) card for Easter, or a big layered birthday cake for a birthday card!  And, of course, instead of patterned paper, you can use your own hand painted papers!  Maybe some Gelli Prints?  So many easy ways to make this style of card work for you!

If you're interested in learning more about pop-up cards, I highly recommend Robert Sabuda's excellent website (lots of free pop-up projects).  I also have a book that I like a lot called The Elements of Pop-Up.  But be forewarned, it's not an instructional book with projects.  The author teaches you how to create the mechanisms behind pop-ups.

I hope you'll give a pop-up a try!
