ScanNCut Canvas has a brand new look!  Plus new features and functionality!

What is ScanNCut Canvas?

ScanNCut Canvas:

  • is FREE
  • is cloud-based (i.e. it lives online not on your computer, so there's no updating on your end and it works with PC or Mac)
  • is mobile device friendly
  • offers editing functions for cutting files
  • allows you to import .svg and .jpg files and turn them into .fcm cutting files
  • has built-in shapes and designs
  • works with your ScanNCut
  • is how you unlock the wireless power of your ScanNCut
  • is where you build rhinestone patterns (with the purchase of the rhinestone starter kit)
  • is where you build sticker designs (with the purchase of the sticker kit)
  • is where you unlock stamp designs (with the purchase of the stamp starter kit)
  • allows you to store all of your personal cutting files in its cloud

Essentially, ScanNCut Canvas is a FREE optional program that allows you to use your computer or mobile device with your ScanNCut if you wish to.  Brother recently made some updates to the ScanNCut Canvas site and in this video, I take you through what every single button and menu item does!  No more guessing.  I'm explaining it all!

If you haven't explored ScanNCut Canvas, I encourage you to give it a try!  You don't even have to own a ScanNCut to sign-up for a free account and start playing around!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. While I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut, it is is a machine that I love and use.

  • Hi Julie,
Loved your tutorial on the scan n cut canvas. You answered several how to questions for me.
One thing I noticed that you did was go from your mac to your Ipad to get a closer handle on your flower. Would that be only a mac and I pad connection?
Can it be done with any pc and tablet? I do not know how you were able to go from one to the other like that but I found that a very useful feature makes it so much easier to get right into the design much better then my old pc.
I have also be reading about this other program Sure Cuts Alot. I have never used this and wanted to know if anyone thinks it is worth the price and if it is better then the scan n cut canvas?
Julie I loved this tutorial I will be saving this thank you so much for all that you show us with your mixed media, stamps and the brother scan n cut.

  • If you’re considering requests for further videos/questions, I have two.
    1. It might be kind of basic, but maybe a part to this video would be going through the steps to send a cut from snc canvas to a scanncut.
    2. I recently bought a scant 2 and am trying to figure how and if I should register my machine with scanncut canvas. My machine (with rhinestone kit from Amazon) didn’t have an activation card included which has the code to register the machine. It appears that it costs an additional $50 to get an activation card to do this. Not sure what the advantages are if it is worth it.
By the way, I tried to decipher this on the scanNcut website and uhm…, I didn’t find it easy to use or helpful. Your videos and instructions are AWESOME, thus this message.

  • I believe you can. I bought a hot glue gun in Australia which had an Aussie plug on it. When I got home to the UK Y used an adapter. Then I decided to cut the plug off and attached a UK plug. Its been working fine ever since. Check with an electrician for safety. When my son emigrated to Australia he cut all the plugs of his electricals and attached Australian plugs.

  • Hi Julie
I just purchased the ScanNCut2 and was delighted to find your You Tube videos and your Balzer Designs website.
Could you share your pen and tablet method you quickly showed in your video from Jan 2016 where you intro’d the new ScanNCut Canvas interface? I looked through the FAQs on that page but didn’t see an answer to another guest question on the same thing.
I have an iPad2 and wanted to do some free drawing into ScanNCut Canvas interface.
    Thanks!

I’ve just bought a cm900 and have watched all you you tube videos end to end. With wine & chocolate to keep me going obvs. I’ve learned such a lot so thank you. One question if you don’t mind – the free monthly downloads – how do I get them into scan & cut canvas? I only use it on iPad and I can’t work out how to do it at all.
Thanks loads for all your tutorials.

  • Hi Julie
I’ve just bought a cm900 and have watched all you you tube videos end to end. With wine & chocolate to keep me going obvs. I’ve learned such a lot so thank you. One question if you don’t mind – the free monthly downloads – how do I get them into scan & cut canvas? I only use it on iPad and I can’t work out how to do it at all.
Thanks loads for all your tutorials.

  • is it possible to to scan an image with the scan n cut 2 (saves as an FCM file) and then rework the image in the Scanncut canvas? It doesn’t seem to want to accept the fcm format that the machine creates.
